Dear all,

The TFTC list was sunset earlier this year for all TRB-related communication activities.

I still take the liberty to use this mailing list to share an initiative that Xuesong Zhou and Jiwon Kim have recently started to address a growing challenge: the absence of a centralised, collective communication channel in our transportation research community across network modelling, traffic flow theory, travel behaviour, and related areas.

Historically, communication in our field has taken place through certain formal committees or organizations. While the associated mailing lists or websites existed, those were often siloed or limited to the committee- or organization-specific business. When such formal structures undergo restructuring or change, the valuable researcher networks, shared knowledge, and long-standing community identities they support are at risk of being diminished or lost.

As a result, there is a need for a unified and sustainable way to communicate, share updates, and preserve the collective knowledge of our research community. In light of this, we’ve created a new community-driven mailing list and website for transportation researchers, called the Transportation Research Network (TRN), using Google Groups and Google Sites platforms as follows:

Our aim is to establish an open, go-to platform for transportation researchers to post updates, share resources, or facilitate collaboration beyond any formal committee or organization structures.

We warmly invite you to join the TRN mailing list (https://groups.google.com/g/transport-research-network). Once subscribed, you’re welcome to begin posting announcements, sharing resources, and helping grow a more connected and collaborative transportation research community.

We also welcome your ideas to enrich the TRN website (https://sites.google.com/view/transport-research-network)with shared resources. Currently, we’ve included the “Datasets” page as a starting point, and we hope to expand this with your contributions—whether it’s datasets, tools, teaching materials, or historical records.

Best regards, Ludovic Leclercq
