Hi, Ken.

I tried your example. When I double tap Red-tailed Hawk in the TS
classification list, I see a sighting confirmation dialog with Red-
tailed Hawk. When I tap that dialog's 'OK' button, a Red-tailed Hawk
entry gets added to the TS sighting list. When I look in the
affected sighting file in the SD card's /tangled/sighting directory, I
see an appended record with "Red-tailed Hawk,Buteo jamaicensis" as
expected.

Is anyone else seeing a species name problem in TS?

If not, perhaps you are experiencing a conflict in class.pdb
versions. The ufg class.pdb file had a classification list based upon
supplement 49 of the AOU checklist and the tangled class.pdf file has
a classification list based upon supplement 50 of the AOU checklist.
Did you delete SI before installing TS?

Concerning your waiting before reporting a large number of problems, I
like to fix one problem at a time (because fixing one can fix many).
Once this species name problem is fixed on your device, don't be shy
in reporting the other problems you are seeing. I am not aware of
any bugs in Tangled or TS and I would like to know about them.

problems in TS

Because of the vast changes in tangled, I am sorta waiting for things
to settle in before responding with problems.

However.. I am having large numbers of problems and difficulty
figuring out the new navigation process. For example.. when double
clicking on say Red Tailed Hawk.. the sightin generated is Murphy's
Petrel. When I select say Swainson's Hawk..I get the sighting record
for Murphy's Petel..when I select anything that should be in my
geographic region (16 or 18)...I get Murphy's Petre.

While the info line on the very top..where TS and the Tangled icon
display...it shows that the sorting is for seasonal geographical...but
it does not display that..it is as if there is no sorting occurring.

Just thought I'd put those twpo out there. Of course...my mine reason
to use TS is for the eBird interface and that is missing as you stated
above..

FYI......

Ok..one at a time.

You asked "did i delete SI before installing TS" . Yes..not just Si
but also UFG and everything else.
I reformatted the SD card and was starting with a new PC...so there
should be no residue.

Interestingly.. I have discovered that a double tap of anything in TS
results in a sighting confirmation dialog as whatever I had
highlighted in Tangled before i moved to TS. Thus I can tag Mountain
Bluebird in Tangled, move to TS and any double tab will result in
Mountain Bluebird showing in the sighting confirmation dialog and TS
sighting list. Change the highlight in Tangled to Robin e.g. and TS
complies with Robin always.

Hi, Ken.

Forgive me for questioning your no residue hypothesis, but try having
your PC's file manager do a search for all the class.pdb files on your
SD card's /tangled directory and let me know where all the occurrences
of that file are, and what there exact file sizes are.

Oops, I meant to ask what _their_ exact file sizes are (to the last
byte). Searching for residue requires precision. :*) One way to get
this information is to right click on the file and select the
properties menu item.

Hi, Ken.

Those file sizes look good. Unfortunately, other than an incorrect
installation, I don't have any ideas at the moment that would explain
the incorrect species names you are reporting. Let's wait a while to
see if anyone else reports this problem. Also, soon I'll post step by
step installation instructions.

I have had the following problem:

If I enter, for example, "barred owl" then tap and save, it correctly
adds barred owl to the sightings list. If I then double tap on any
other bird, without first backing all the way out to class Aves, I
still get barred owl again.

Also, how do I edit a sighting entry or delete an entry entirely?

Hi, Duane.

Thanks for reporting the problem concerning the double tap not
changing the species in the sighting confirmation dialog. I'm able to
recreate it and I will look into fixing it this evening. (Just got
back from a 15 mile run, so food and a shower are my immediate
concerns. :*)

You are not the first to ask the question about editing sightings, but
TS is just a data entry form, not an editor. To edit or delete a
record from a spreadsheet on the SD card, I use a spreadsheet or text
editor application running on the PC, but I imagine a PalmOS text
editor application is available somewhere.

Hi, Ken.

I found/fixed an indexing mistake that caused an incorrect ordering of
the TS classification list when not in the AOU order. If you were
testing not in the AOU order, this mistake would explain the mismatch
of species names in the Tangled application and the TS application.

I'll post the fixed version of TS in a few minutes.
