On the PalmOS version of Tangled, to check the species in the class
list that are common in your area,

-- switch to the geography list,
-- check your particular Bird Conservation Region, and
-- project that check back to the class list (by tapping the '>' icon
and checking 'class').

And to sort a list alphabetically,

-- tap the 'O' (for Order) icon in the title bar, and
-- select 'alphabetical' from the list of order options.

On the Android OS version of Tangled, the projection is the same.
However in the Android version, the lists that can be sorted have a
drop down menu that shows the list's current sort order and displays
the sort options when tapped.

One more thing I have a question about. Can I order the birdlist
alphabetically. I am pretty much in over my head with this guide. I
would like to check the birds common to my area and then list them
alphabetically.
