In the spirit of one problem at a time.........
I have lost Tangled Sighting.
I have downloaded the ts- installer a number of times. (after first
deleting the prior effort[s]).
I have tried locating it in the Palm root directory (with the
start.prc). no luck
I have tried locating it in the Palm\Launcher directory (where the
Tangled.prc worked fine). no luck
I only tried executing it after having Tangled installed and running.
It just seems that the OS does not see the installer????

Is it safe to assume you resolved the previous problem you reported:
the size differences between the /tangled directory on your PC and
the /tangled directory on your SD card?
- Greg
I did a full start over. Re-format the SD card then re populate as
per previous instruction (media, text, application).
Clearly the problem is with my Palm (or me!), as others are doing
well. (and I had success with TS in the earlier version).
Just now, checking the properties data for each things are not the
same. The method of transfer was using the TDU utility plus moving the
application installer,I just figured the two would be a mirror..they
are not???
card..7772 files 124 folders
PC....7755 files 126 folders
each has 10 directories.?
The Tangled Differential Update utility (TDU) doesn't attempt to
mirror the PC and SD card /tangled directories. For example, the
Tangled application creates a file on the SD card when a list's sort
order is changed (the file is basically a sort order cache) and there
is no point in having those sort/cache files mirrored.
So is it safe to assume you've resolved the previous problem you
reported: the ts-Installer.prc installation application not displayed
by PalmOS?
- Greg
Filez shows the ts-intaller.prc in the palm\launcher directory.
When I selected goto species inventory from Tangled classification
screen..WITH species highlighted. ...I get the message.."To switch to
the sighting application, you must first highlight a species"
When the card is first inserted with the TS-installer newly deployed
to the card, there is no alert and screen that says ts is
installing. No 'Sighting' file in the Palm category menu.
Thanks

I don't have a 'Palm' category. Perhaps that is a category you
created? If you switch to the 'All' category, do you see the ts-
Installer application?
There must be a dozen ways to install a PalmOS application, but my
favorite is to copy the installer application (e.g., ts-Installer.prc)
to the SD card's /PALM/Launcher directory. When the SD card is
inserted in the PalmOS device, a 'Card' category is listed, and the
installer application appears in that category. The advantage of
having the installer on the SD card is that it survives problems
(e.g., discharged battery) and is always at the ready to perform a
fresh install.
- Greg
The TS-installer.prc is on the SD card's /Palm?launcher directory.
When I placed the Tangled installer at the same location above..when
inserted in the Palm the installer executed and began the Tangled
installation. Which is what has happened in the past when I placed
the species inventory installer (Peck, UFG, and last version of TS) at
the launcher...is launched and began the installation. That is not
happening now.

Typically (and like any other PalmOS application), you need to tap on
the icon of the installer application in order for the installer
application to run. However, for convenience, I've distributed an
autostart application (i.e., start.prc located on the SD card's /PALM
directory) that
-- starts the Tangled application if it has been installed
-- looks for and runs the tangled-Installer.prc application if the
Tangled application has not been installed
As far as I know, there has never been an autostart application that
automatically looks for and runs the installer application for Species
Inventory (SI) or Tangled Sighting (TS). I suppose it is possible
someone else wrote an autostart application for that, but I suspect
you are not remembering how you previously installed SI.
In short, tap the ts-Installer.prc icon (wherever it is) to run it and
install TS (Tangled sighting).
- Greg
If i saw/found a ts icon I would know to tap it. That is the
problem..no icon.
The ts-Installer.prc icon is the same as the tangled-Installer.prc
icon (and the same as any other installer application produced by
Palm's Installer utility): a downward blue arrow into a blue
semicircle. The name under the icon is "ts Installer".
I've never seen a Palm device fail with the problems you've been
reporting. However it is possible it is giving up the ghost. If you
have a chance to try an Android device, you won't even miss the Palm
device.
- Greg
Thanks
Carriers (and their contracts) are not a necessity. I believe there
will be a phoneless Android device sometime this year, akin to the
phoneless iPhone (a.k.a., iTouch). Because I needed a test device
now, I bought an unlocked Google Nexus One and I'm using it without a
SIM card, which means it gets no cell phone service (except for
emergency calls). However, I'm content with the WIFI connection.
