I'm not sure whether or not any of you will have any ideas for this... but I figured it was worth a shot!
I just found out that I'm officially in charge of planning a spring break college trip for 8th graders at my school... which includes spending a full day on the Harvard campus (we do H-Y-P-Columbia)!
Last year the students pretty much just went on a tour through the
admissions office and spoke with a few students through BMF, but this year it's entirely up to me what they do at Harvard and I'm hoping to get something
better planned! Since I've never planned a trip like this before and the possibilities are endless... I figured before getting started with contacting people in Cambridge I should gather up as many ideas as possible from other alums... aka you guys.
So... if you could design a trip to Harvard for a group of 13-16 year olds who have never really really seen a college campus before... what would you have them do? I'm already hoping to get something set up with BMF (and maybe AfAm students at the grad schools), to try to contact Skip Gates to see if he's free, and to set up a THC tour through the 137, but beyond that any/all suggestions are welcome!
In addition to any activities that immediately pop into your head in
general... if you have any people (professors, students, alums) -- esp in the African American community -- that you think might be able to help me, please send along their contact info! I'm ashamed to say it but after only 6
months out of the Harvard bubble I'm already starting to lose my
contacts, so any/all help you can provide would be much, much
appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the help -- and looking forward to seeing you guys this weekend!!
