Dear Lower Elementary Corps Members,

Happy 2011! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and have enjoyed getting back to teaching. There are so many new and improved professional development opportunities for you in 2011. Notice that the first opportunity is coming up in just 2 weeks!!! It is going to be a must-be-there event for all ECE and elementary CMs! Check it out!

Here are some things you need to know about this spring:

New Professional Development Structure for the Spring:

This spring, the Content Leaders, PDs, and alumni are teaming up to provide you with 3 amazing Saturday workshop days. These 3 workshop days will take the place of the many smaller workshops we provided in the Fall.

In response to CM feedback, we decided to move to this new structure so that you all could better plan for the workshops in your busy schedules and so that we could provide you with a lot of content knowledge and skills in a more efficient way. Additionally, a team of leaders will be following up with you after these workshops to ensure you have what you need to take action with the things you learn. These workshops will be packed with more helpful information, be more inspiring and be a great place to see all of your fellow ECE and elementary Bay Area CMs!

Our workshops this spring will be: (*These are overarching topics; however, general content beyond these topics will also be included!)

January 29th:Literacy Conference The Content Leaders and the PDs have planned this Literacy Conference to provide you with more knowledge and skills about how to execute an effective ELA block. This will follow the “Classroom You Want” workshop at 9 am at LPS-Hayward. You will get to choose 2 workshops that best fit your needs!

March 5th: Reteaching and Reviewing

April 30th: Topic TBD

Mark your calendars with these 3 dates now!

What’s Staying the Same?

Content leaders are still here for office hours and other support and communication (which you can still receive credit for), and we will be sending out a monthly newsletter. Starting in our next newsletter, we will be providing tips, strategies and ideas for you.

Office Hours: Continue to contact us at any time to get support or ideas.

·      Email one of your amazing Content Leaders and they will accommodate your schedule to support you with whatever YOU need! Bring any areas of growth from this round with your PD to these eight amazing leaders and get one-on-one support. Email them as soon as possible and find time to better your teaching!

Have a fantastic week!

Sincerely,

Your Lower Elementary Content Team
