When TextWrangler 3.1 crashes and you reopen it, previously unsaved
text editing sessions (unsaved files) are restored. This is a
wonderful feature.

Where does TextWrangler 3.1 store these files? I care because I
upgraded from OS X 10.6.4 to 10.6.6 and Force Quit TW as an expedient
way to get it closed without losing my numerous unsaved text editing
sessions. When I rebooted after the OS X upgrade and re-ran TW, the
text files were not restored.

I really want to get them back.

Thank you for any help.

That's a really dangerous thing to do. Applications are not
designed to be force-quit, and every time you do it you risk
data loss.

Auto-save data lives in ~/Library/Application
Support/TextWrangler/Auto-Save Recovery/. If that folder is
empty you are out of luck.

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they
sedate me.

That directory has no files in it.

Absolutely. In this case, I knew there was a higher chance than usual
that I'd lose the unsaved sessions since I was also doing an OS X
upgrade. I weighed that before killing TextWrangler and doing the
upgrade.

Thanks for your help.

You may wish to consider upgrading to BBEdit, which has a
"Sleep" command. If you routinely force-quit TextWrangler and
hope for the best, Sleep will do exactly what you need, reliably.
