For those feeling adventurous, I have a new beta release out.

The big feature is the ability to set an alternative icon. Some comments have come in that the current icon is hard to distinguish, with one person suggesting the ability to use one of the holiday icons as a permanent icon. I took that idea and created several alternative icons (while leaving the holiday icons alone). Additionally, I added a few nostalgic icons from back in the day (TextSoap 5, 6, and 7).

Please note: This does not permanently change the icon. Rather, the change is only visible while the app is running. I didn't want to use an API that I believe is close to being deprecated. I'm hoping that macOS 27 will add some forward-looking improvements that allow apps to change their icons, especially when using the new format Apple wants us to embrace. 🤞

The setting is in Settings > Advanced > Use Alternative icon.

I should clarify… the beta is stable. The adventurousness is just about playing with new functionality. 🙂
