Hey Lonestars!

Thank you all so much for voting on amendments last week.  As a reminder, GM must have voted 3/4 in favor of an amendment in order for it to pass. The results of each amendment are as follows:

Amendment 1:

Active Member Commitment: Once a member has taken Active Member status for the semester, they are expected to remain active and complete all required credits and responsibilities for that semester.

Inactivity Requests

a. Members may not go inactive mid-semester unless there are extenuating circumstances.

b. Extenuating circumstances include, but are not limited to:

• A serious personal illness or injury

• Death or critical illness in the immediate family

• Any situation that would qualify for support or accommodation through the University’s Student Outreach and Support Center (or equivalent campus office)

c. Members facing these types of situations will not be required to petition formally for inactive status, and their dues and credits will be handled on a case-by-case basis with understanding and compassion.

 Voluntary Inactivity

a. If a member wishes to go inactive mid-semester for personal or non-emergency reasons, they must complete the official Inactive Status Form.

b. The President, Vice President, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chairs must collectively confirm and approve the status change.

c. Members approved for inactive status under these conditions will not be required to complete their credits for the remainder of the semester. However, their dues for that semester will automatically roll over and count toward their next semester of active membership.

I Agree - 83.9% (passed)

I Disagree - 16.1%

Amendment 2:

Sober Star Responsibility Policy : To ensure the safety and well-being of all members at events where alcohol is served, the organization must always have designated Sober Stars present for the full duration of the event.

Primary Sober Star Assignment

a. If no active members are available or willing to volunteer as Sober Stars for a given social event, responsibility will fall to the Executive Board.

b. The first point of responsibility will be the Social Chairs for that semester, provided they are in attendance at the event. ‘

Executive Board Lottery System

a. If the Social Chairs are unable to fulfill this role, the responsibility will be assigned through a random lottery among Executive Board members attending the event.

b. Once an Executive Board member has served as a Sober Star during a semester, they will be removed from the lottery for any subsequent events that semester to ensure fair rotation of responsibility.

c. The President or Social Chairs will oversee and document the lottery selection process for transparency.

Scope of Policy

a. This policy applies only in unique or emergency situations where no designated Sober Stars from the active membership are available.

b. It is the shared responsibility of the Executive Board to ensure that all events uphold the highest standards of member safety, accountability, and care.

I Agree - 87.5% (passed)

I Disagree - 12.5%

Amendment 3:

Following disaffiliation from another social organization, affiliation will be assessed on a semesterly basis. During this process, the Executive Board will first vote if reaffiliation should be considered for the subsequent semester following proof of growth from the disaffiliated organization, methods including a presentation, zoom call, or other methods acceptable to President and DEI chairs. If Executive Board votes to consider reaffiliation, a deciding vote will be presented to General Members.

I Agree - 98.2% (passed)

I Disagree - 1.8%

The Constitution is updated to reflect these amendments now; I have highlighted the new amendments for easy finding.

Lots of Lonestar Love,
