Hi Lonestars,
I hope everyone is having a wonderful break filled with rest and time with loved ones (I know I am!!!). I am contacting y'all to let you know about a recent discovery regarding the Texas Iron Spikes organization.
I was contacted directly by the Texas Sweethearts President to inform me that a Texas Iron Spikes binder had been leaked. This binder contained an extensive documentation of Texas Iron Spikes' past classes and descriptions of their members, as well as some how-to guides of their organization. After reviewing the entirety of the 62-page document, I can report that there is explicit use of discriminatory language and, overall, a culture that is ingrained with values that Texas Lonestars does not tolerate or stand for. This binder contained racist remarks, sexist comments (many towards other spirit organizations), slurs, etc. Despite the introduction and application of their new policies and positive changes, this document shed a light on the character of each member of the organization dating years back. What we once believed was an individual-level issue that was resolved, this document shows that this is simply the culture of the organization.
Like I've said in the past, I do not take these issues lightly so myself and our Executive Board took action immediately. I was informed that Texas Sweethearts and Texas Lassos will remain disaffiliated from Texas Iron Spikes due to this binder. Texas Spirits recently disaffiliated as a result of this recent discovery, and other spirit organizations may follow. Texas Roundtable is currently coming up with an action plan to handle this issue, but they have informed me that they have reported Texas Iron Spikes to the university.
Our Spring 2026 Executive Board met and discussed this issue and unanimously voted to disaffiliate from Texas Iron Spikes for the Spring 2026 semester. I have contacted Iron Spikes to let them know of our decision. Our disaffiliation means that TXLS will not host/co-host any events with TXIS for the Spring 2026 semester. If we want to re-affiliate for the following semester they are in charge of reaching out to us to have a conversation regarding this decision and provide us with the requested evidence/speakers/etc. Please note that while this process is not listed in the Constitution I contacted past Presidents to be walked through how this process has taken place in the past to ensure we are handling matters the best way possible. When we come back from break we will be having a GM vote to decide if Iron Spikes members will be allowed at our events (example: a lonestar bringing an iron spike as a date to crush). This vote will pass with a majority vote and I will explain further when we come back.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding this process. I know it is a lot of information to soak in, but be rest assured that our Executive Board made our decision with our member's well being as our top priority! I am here for y'all always!!!
Lonestar Love,
Kimberly Culebro
