DISCUSSION OVERVIEW:

 

History of Peace and Dignity Run

• run is every 4 years
• result of intertribal gathering in 1990
• part of the southern prophecy of the eagle and the condor
• 1992 first run began, started in Alaska and Machu Picchu             
• ended on Oct12 - part of 500 years of native resistance
• each run has a prayer it carries
• 1992 - elders
• 1996 - youth
• 2000 - family
• 2004 - women, to bring attn to balance of life
• 2008 - reactivate sacred altars/sites
• 2012 – water
• Will be important to focus and gain awareness of the state of water in each area so folks know how to direct the prayer in Texas

 

Important things to consider as we begin to organize:

• creation of a route
• creation of an organizing council
• focus of the run - water
• runner responsibilities – they are messengers for the people
• funding - gas, runners, housing, food
• June 17-19 gathering in manitoba, canada
• border may be problem
• Jose spoke of war in Columbia as an example
• route went around warzone
• entry through medicine gardens?
• tributary route possible, where we follow waters then meet the staffs in Mexico
• Jose can provide update of journeys in other areas
