Open Educational Resources Librarian
University of Houston Libraries

The University of Houston seeks an Open Educational Resources Librarian to join the Collections Strategies and Services Department. Reporting to the Open Educational Resources Coordinator, this position is responsible for contributing to the advancement of the University of Houston open educational resources (OER) program.
 
The librarian will contribute significantly to the planning, implementation, and assessment of OER program activities. Responsibilities include engaging in faculty outreach, targeting courses and programs for OER adoption, and managing implementation of the Alternative Textbook Incentive Program. The librarian will collaborate with instructors and provide professional development to support OER adoption, adaptation, and creation, including: assisting with identifying appropriate OER materials, encouraging development of high-quality and accessible course material, and providing guidance on open licensing, copyright, and fair use best practices. The librarian will have opportunities to develop expertise in these areas.  

The librarian will collaborate with colleagues in and out of the library to promote open education and affordable course materials. Other responsibilities include collaborating with colleagues on departmental projects and initiatives and contributing to the advancement of departmental priorities.

Qualifications
Required
  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in and out of the library
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest, coursework, or experience related to open educational resources
Preferred
  • Familiarity with trends in open education and/or textbook affordability
  • Familiarity with copyright, open licensing, and fair use
  • Project management skills

Salary:  $63,500 to $67,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
