Foreward

This To-Do list was created at the most recent Austin council PDJ meeting and is intended to serve as one example and way to systematically break down an organizing project. This will change over time as it becomes more precise and focused with every meeting but it gives those involved an idea of where we collectively and logistically stand.

Important Dates

We hope to keep a list of milestones, ceremonies and danzas since we all usually run into each other during these times.

December 2011

  • Possible get together for a ceremony to ask permission/blessings from the abuelit@s for the Texas PDJ
  • Next Austin PDJ meeting

December 12, 2011

February 23, 2012

March 13, 2012

September 2012

PDJ Staffs arrive in Texas

Statewide Action Items

1.        WEBSITE

We need a domain name (ourname.com) for the state.  We have a page within the main PDJ site but we don’t have a domain name of our own, which can make it easier for folks to access us online.  It’s totally cool if regions want to have their own websites, but it would be good if we had a statewide one that could serve as a port of entry that could link up to any others.  Here are available options for names:

·         TexasPDJ.com (.org or .us)

·         texaspeaceanddignityjourneys.com (.org or .us)

·         txpeaceanddignityjourneys.com (.org or .us)

Are there any other suggestions?  It would be great if we could get this done within the next two weeks so that we can scratch it off our list.

Please submit your vote on which name you think would work best.

2.       HISTORY

Since the story of colonization in Texas is unique, we felt that reclaiming the indigenous names of our lands was important, as was sharing the local native history.  We will soon be reclaiming the name Wana Ajehuac (sacred springs, the Coahuiltecan name for Austin) and Ganapetuan (the area around the Colorado River) and posting our native history on the HISTORY section of the Texas PDJ website that was recently created.  (For example, the first request for immigration documents in the US happened here in Austin by an army soldier who requested documents from a native man whose family for generations hunted in these lands. Evidence of native cultures date back to 11,000 years!!!)

Business cards and organizing links

Attached are some important files that were in the Peace and Dignity Organizer’s kit for your review.

Tasks

As we continue to meet, we will add/delete and edit these tasks to refine our action items and delegate responsibilities.  This was just a way to organize our thoughts and come up with a visual step-by-step plan of action.

Awesome work folks!
I am going to forward this information to a couple of other PDJ organizers.  It would be good for the Texas organizers to connect with other coordinators who are organizing within their respective regions.  In the near future we should have a national or international conference call.

I am forwarding this email to Joe Lara of San Diego PDJ,they are the ones hosing the website, Chucho Ruiz and Dominique Calza, ,and Amy Juan organizers within AZ. Mark Chavez of Denver, and Vanessa Inaru who is organizing within the east coast and the Caribbean islands.

Upcoming events:
*PDJ organizing Meeting near Morelia, Michoacan, this weekend Nov 12-13.
*PDJ organizing Meeting in AZ this Month
*PDJ organizing meeting in British Columbia, Canada (TBA)
* San Diego PDJ has monthly meetings
*LA PDJ Collective has bi-weekly meetings

Here are a few PDJ video link:

1990 documentary of the First Intercontinental Indigenous Gathering in Quito, where the propehecy of the Eagle and Condor was shared with Indigenous Peoples throughout Abya Yala.  Many of the participants went on to become Peace and Dignity Journeys coordinators:

2000 documentary Living the Prophecy
The run in Borinken in 2010

Excerpt from the documentary of the 1992 run

Another one from 1992...ha its funny the guy just released this video but he uses most of the stuff that i have written about the journeys.
