Dear Education Program Director,
Thanks to your hard work, environmental education (EE) initiatives have made great strides in Texas over the last few years. We’ve developed a framework for promoting environmental literacy through the Texas Natural Resource/Environmental Literacy Plan (NR/EL Plan). We’ve hosted a statewide Summit to introduce the NR/EL Plan to practitioners, scholars, and community members. We’ve developed the Texas Children in Nature collaborative which works tirelessly to get children into the great outdoors. We even conducted a research study in 2009 that identified patterns of EE organizations within our large and diverse state (see attached infographic).
Much has been done to advance EE within our state; however, we still have a lot to learn! This research builds on our 2009 study by updating our database of information concerning large-scale EE patterns in Texas. We are asking that you take 30 minutes out of your day to take a survey detailing characteristics of your EE organization. Your participation and thoughtful answers are important for growth of EE in our state.
You organization was identified through one of the following: the Texas Children in Nature collaborative, the Texas Association for Environmental Education, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Environmental Literacy Summit of 2013, or the Informal Science Education Association of Texas.
Data from this survey will be compiled and used for deliverables such as presentations, newsletters, reports, and journal articles. This data could be beneficial for grant applications, reports to your Board of Directors, or a measure for personal growth. By participating in this survey you will not only assist fellow educators, but you will also attribute important information to the overall body of knowledge concerning EE in Texas.
