If a person wanted a crew bag sent to chicken hawk, is there a way to get it there?
Thanks...

Chicken Hawk is a full-service stop with plenty of horse feed as well as drinks and snacks for riders. You're almost to Foresthill so best to vet, take a short break if really needed, and get moving down the trail.

If you really feel the need, crews can park and hike in the mile or so from the road to the check. If you have a small bag, you might be able to have someone else's crew bring it in. Just make sure you have it worked out how to get it back.

I helped volunteer for the last 1/2 of the riders coming through there last year and I don't remember many with personal crew stuff. We seemed to have any major needs covered with ride supplies, including bee sting kits and ice.

Hi Sandy,

I think you will need to make your own arrangements for that.  Chicken Hawk is a gate-and-go, and the vet stop is set up with hay and water for the horses.  I don't know if there will be bran mashes or not.  It's just four and a half miles before Foresthill, a full hour hold, so I don't think many riders see the necessity for crew or crew bags there.  Most riders don't linger at Chicken Hawk any longer than it takes for water, some hay, and the vet exam.

If you need something special there, I suggest you talk to the crews of people camped near you at Robie Park and inquire if any of them will be going into Chicken Hawk.  The walk in for crews is less than a mile, relatively flat.

Hope this helps,
   Barbara

Sandy,

Remember, the vast majority of completes do so after 4 am. So aside from keeping your horse sound, your biggest challenge is time. There is more help and support at and between vet checks than you can imagine. What every experienced Western States rider will tell is to not be slowed down by all this help.
So, as others have said, it is not only unnecessary to have your own vet bag at Chicken Hawk, it is a bad idea. It will slow you down.
