testNG doubts

I am new to testNG. Currently I have installed its plugin inside eclipse. I
would like to know the following:
1. Can we can use it to test desktop applications?
2. Also is it necessary to use Selenium to test web applications?
3. How is testNG related to Ant and Maven?
4. If I use Selenium to test a web application will i be able to test all
its features?
