Numbers often recognised as characters (5 -> s)

I am having similar issues as this user had https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/issues/305

In my case I'm inputting lines of text containing mostly words with the occasional the use of numbers. Sometimes numbers such as 5 are been confused with the letter s.

Is there some settings that can be adjusted to help reduce the frequency of this mistake.
