The current version of tesseract in Debian and Ubuntu changes the
output filename extension (.hocr) compared to the previous version
(.html).

Whilst API changes are inevitable - they really should be accompanied
by bumps to the version number. Otherwise it makes it really difficult
for programs which use tesseract to deal with API changes.

Please bump the version number (i.e. the output of tesseract
--version) before every release.

Jeff

Well 3.03 was not released yet (there is just RC1). So if somebody is reporting issue for 3.03 she/he needs to refer to refer svn revision too.

Indeed. Debian has 3.03[1], but --version reports 3.02. I guess this
is a Debian bug.

Thanks for the clarification.

To be honest I am not sure about exact version number of released tesseract, but Ray mentioned there could be also new/updated language datas for 3.03(.x?) version (there are several problems reported in issue tracker related to language data, so it would be great if they are fixed in next stable version).

But I agree - if somebody wants to use current code/3.03-RC1, he/she should patch version number of tesseract to correctly identify tesseract version.
