Hi,
I work for a start up company in San Francisco CA. Our company uses
ABBY Fine Reader to do all of our OCR extraction. I've been looking at
alternate solutions to ABBY because I would like to automate our OCR
process a little more that what we have. It would be nice to use a
free tool to avoid having to purchase off the shelf software. Does
anyone know how Tesseract-ocr would compare to ABBY Fine Reader? Our
group uses Visual Studio and I see that there is a Windows DLL with
Tesseract, would I be able to use this DLL with C#?

Hi,
In which lang you are proposed to train by using tesseractocr?. Since English data files are readily available for use. You can re-compile in Visual studio 2008 edn for which .sln are available for Msplatform. There is wiki section wherein detailed procedure for training are explained..
-cheers
