Softi FreeOCR.net was a super-handy way for low-tech folks like me to
use tesseract, but it seems to be dead. (Softi claims to have sold it
to www.freeocr.co.uk, but there's nothing there.) Anyone know if it's
still under development? Or if there is another decent tesseract gui
for Windows?

VietOCR.sf.net is not just for Vietnamese -- it looks to be a very good program.

you can google for other download locations for this program. I downloaded 2.4
from Softi website, and 2.6 from some generic download website after the Softi
website contained it no longer, so it might still be under development by some
third party.

It is handy because you can ocr non-text pdf documents with it. Is it possible
using VietOCR? Especially, the JAVA version?
