I'm unable to build Tesseract 2.03 with Windows XP
I also tried to build the project with MSVS 2005 but in this case the
compilation fails ...
Someone was able to build the exeutables on Windows XP - Vista?
How have you done?
What are your secrets?

Attached exe files of tesseract generated in XP and also copy of tessdata containing eng.datafiles.  Please rename "tesseract-files.ZIP OK" as "tesseract-files.ZIP" (delete "OK")
-Cheers
tesseract--files.ZIP OK

I am also having problems gettin Tesseract to work on Windows.

I downloaded the binaries, but when I execute "tesseract.exe image.tif
output.txt -l eng", I get nothing. No output, no errors, nothing. Just
another command prompt.

So, I downloaded the latest source, opened the solution in VS2005, and
performed a build. It compiled everything without errors. I ran the
resulting tesseract.exe as before, and get the same results - no
output, no errors.

SO, I downloaded the tesseract-files.ZIP posted by 74yrs_old, unzipped
to a folder, and tried running the same command. Get the same results
(or lack thereof).

I have the image file and the tessdata subfolder located in the same
folder as the tesseract.exe file. What am I missing to get the program
to work?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Check tesseract.log and look for output.txt.txt, which is where the output should be. (Yes double .txt as you gave one on the command line.)
Ray.

Ahh... "Illegal image format:Compression"

It is a G4 TIFF and Tesseract only supports G3 "out-of-the-box".

I assume I'll need to add in libtiff support as described in the
ReadMe? I'll give that a try.

Thanks for your help!

If you are using MSwindows, you can use Irfanview 4.10 which is free download- for de-compression. It works without any problem.
