At this time, Co-editing is only available for files stored in one of the supported cloud storage locations (Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft SharePoint, Google Drive, Box, & Dropbox).

The Auto-Save feature automatically saves changes made during Co-editing sessions back to the original cloud storage location after you leave or end the session. If Auto-Save is turned off unsaved changes can be downloaded from the file recovery system for 7 days.
Yes, choose the 3rd option in the share co-editing link dialog, this option checks the cloud storage permissions for the file so those with edit permission will be able to edit while others with view permission will only be able to view the session.
