Here is a summary I made some time ago of the feedback (I intended to post it somewhere, but forgot):

Contact List
    Magic contact selector
    Show avatars on mouse hover (expand item)
    Effects/animations
    Keyboard shortcuts
    Contacts added to roster 'fade in' (Very hard, but fading colours may be possible)
    Sub-groups

Notifications
    In current message window (if in foreground), so user's eyes do not have to travel to corner of screen

Message Windows
    Gajim-like, much more info (TabSRMM's info panel)
    Good message sessions support
    /commands!
    Customisable tabs (TabSRMM again)
   

MUCs
    (Intelligent) Filter system
    Threading
    Lots of IRC commands (so simple to implement, why not?)
    Intelligent tab-completion
    Tabs, optional
    MUST be able to minimize to roster! MUST MUST MUST!!!!

We wish to discuss ideas, suggestions and answer questions about
Tessa's future User Interface.
First you should know that Tessa isn't restricted to Graphical User
Interfaces nor just one platform and/or Graphical Toolkit. Tessa IM
will feature command line interfaces, graphical interfaces, remote
interfaces... But what is most important at this time is designing the
Graphical User Interface that deploys wxWidgets for the Graphical
Toolkit.

It should be advised providing feedback for the wxWidgets Interface of
Tessa at this time because the interface would be cross-platform and
would provide enough functionality.
