Help!! When I updated to Windows 10, my Wi-Fi quit working. I have a good Wi-Fi connection for other devices in the house. In network & security, I can only see the ethernet option. I can see the Wi-Fi adapter is the Ralink RT-3290 802.11 bgn wi-fi driver which is a windows 7 driver. I tried updating the drivers in the HP assistant but the reply is that I have the latest drivers (that HP has....) I have looked everywhere and am unable to find the windows 10 driver. Thanks everybody. Jim

When i ran the .exe file you provided, it set up the C:SWSETUP folder. I wasn't sure what to do with the folder but ran the setup.exe. It started to execute then just went away. I restarted my computer just in case it worked but no luck with a wireless connection coming up in the Network&security and same ol drivers present on my system.

That was the one and only W10 driver they made for that card, and what is happening two years down the road, with all these new updates to W10, some hardware no longer works because the manufacturers won't update the drivers.

Appreciate your help and additional info, especially about the USB device if I need it. In your last post, you said to go to device manager >> network & security >>>then select my ralink wi-fi card. That is not a choice. All I have under that area is the following:

Your screenshot shows that the Ralink wifi card has completely disappeared from the device manager, which is a common problem with that wifi card, and any subsequent updates of W10 from the original version that came out in July of 2015.

If it still doesn't work, A great workaround would be is to buy a USB wireless dongle from Best Buy or Staples or from Amazon or e-bay and plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer. Then connect it to the router to go online. It is very economical and cost-effective and can be ordered for a song.

I also used to suffer from the same issue. I downloaded 10+ drivers, replaced WIFI adapter, asked support from "helpdesk" and from real professionals, without success. Then I bought a Dell Latitude laptop, it works properly, and now I am trying to sell this f**** HP, but no one wants to take it

You will see now 2 of the same Ralink drivers. I thought the last was after the windows 10 update, so i clicked the first. Install and fixed. After i Shut down my comp and restart it, it worked as before.

I have a HP laptop HP Split 13-m010tu x2 PC. Recently i upgraded internal from SSD 64GB to 512GB and i have to reinstall Win 10 Home 64bits. Next, i reinstalled RT3290 driver, i encontered problem and i cannot connect to wifi at all (cannot even detect the SSID). Anway, Ralink RT3290 only can support 2.4GHz wifi, it can't support 5GHz wifi.

My hp cannot detect my wifi at all (but all my smart phones can connect to the SSID). Then one day i happened to power recycle my home router and i notice that my HP laptop able to detect SSID and after i configured, it can detect and connected. I was happy. I started to do some investigation is that my router problem or is RAlink RT3290 wifi adapater problem.

If I use ch 2 or 5, i wll have some stabiliyt issue and may get disconnected easily. Well, I don't think this is interference issue although I am staying in high rise apartment and there are many wifi signal/ssid that I can detect.

Thus if you have Ralink RT3290 connection issue, please try changing your wifi router channel. By default we typically set to auto so that it can do auto sensing. However, it won't change the channel even you power on/off your wifi router if router didn't detect any interference ,so when you power on/off your wifi router, it may stay on the same channel. In case the auto mode is assinging a channel 12 or 13, then it can't even detect the SSID (the situation which i encountered).

I have install the Ubuntu 20.04 OS and for a week I try to install the driver for ralink technology corp. mt7601u wireless adapter ubuntu 20.04 without success. I tried dozens of methods but no one work. The device worked fine on Windows 10.

Error: mt7601u_mcu_wait_resp timed out
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be an easy solution to ^this. You can read about it here and if you're willing to try building your own kernel module, maybe you can solve it:
-moo/mt7601u/issues/64

firstly the driver is installed correctly but stops working so i uninstall it then after reboot when i install it again it says (same driver) that it is not compatible with your mac os Catalina. How does this happen?

It doesn't work for me... it installs fine, it finds networks and I can create profile, connection gets established but it works (or at least it says it works) for a few seconds and then gets disconnected. If and when I see the connection in System Preferences/Network it shows Self-Assigned IP. I tried V1 and V2, the same thing happens.

However, the configuration panel allowed me to connect to my home wifi, but it lost connection in 5 seconds and can't connect again...if i unplug my wifi adapter and replug in, the panel can allow me to connect again, but lose connection very quickly.

I too have a 148f:7601 which I got close to working. Using Catalina 10.15.4 just fine. Installed as described and got the connection and then disconnect thing. Changing channels on router stopped disconnecting. Put router back to Auto and moved my Wifi adapter to a different USB port and connection is solid. However, Network preferences keeps showing Self-Assigned IP. Once, it magically connected but never could reach the internet.

If the dongle is plugged in the front panel it's detected in System Info but if I plug it to the mounting adapter (the thing shipped with the dongle that supports it, it's in usb3) the dongle isn't showing anymore... My TPLink wn823n works with the mounting support but the dongle isn't a usb3 device. So I'm wondering what went wrong there.

I don't know if it's a bug in the beta of mac os, or a permission issue or what is happening, but in the system preference panel the wifi d-link doesn't show, but it works because if from the top bar I click on Wireless preferences the panel opens and it is then visible in system preference panel; however if I close the system preference panel and I open again the wifi d-link icon doesn't show.

I saw your latest release for mac os Big Sur, however this doesn't include the RT2870, maybe you can include the kext in that package? So to be able to use that wifi utility with the RT2870 and have all the controls from the top bar, without entering any additional panel from the system preference panel.

If the prefpane is installed in /System/Library (as the kext and the wifi utility), at least in beta 1, icon in system preferences disappears but the panel works if invoked directly from finder or from the top bar menu

Im looking for the same... I read that if you start up your computer pressing the keys 2 and 3 at the same time you can boot ondemand in 32 bit architecture, then you can install the card... but I have been trying to install it but had no success yet... please if any one knows how to install this card on muntain lion, please share

I will also say that the rtl8187l works with 10.8+ but only with KisMac. KisMac does not allow you to connect to networks though. I plugged in the RTL8187L and opened up the Network Settings preference pane and it could not be detected.

I forgot to mention you can buy an ALFA R36 to use with the RTL8187L to make it compatible with Mac 10.8+, Windows 8, 7, XP as it uses a localhost based interface through ethernet or WLAN. It might be out of the price of most people. About $55.00 USD

To all people: I received my Alfa AWUS036H yesterday and I was sad that mac os x 10.8.3 (a so to windows 8 in parallels) didn't work with it. In windows 7 at the same parallels, no problem despite monitor software was not able to be installed, but signal of wifi increased a lot. Today I downloaded ( _en/07_downloads/01_windows.php?sn=502) a new drive and monitor (beta, may not work to someone). In a forum ( -awus036nh-awus036neh-mountain-lion-driver- utility.564/), they ask to delete former drive/monitor and install the new one. At mediatek site, they are confuse (maybe translation troubles), but you have USB RT 3x7x (Alfa AWUS036H uses RT 3070 chip) drive. After click in this option, they ask your name and e-mail to start download. I installed the software and re-started mac. In Applications, there was a new folder - Ralink wireless utility. Clicking on WirelessUtility, a new icon appeared at top bar. So, then you click and select open wireless utility. Then, you conect usb with Alfa AWUS036H. Worked, monitor showed a increased wifi signal. Then, you can create one profile, save password, etc. Good luck!

Realtek has stopped the RTL8187L support for the drivers after 10.6.8. (The last version for Realtek Utility was 1.5.7 2008 ) I am not aware on any tricks to make an Alfa AWUS036H work on 10.8. If anyone does, please let me know.

Ok, but this driver it's working. Maybe without all funcionality, but it worked and increased wifi signal. My point is related to old antenna and new OS, or (my case) a wrong chinese web purchase: the battle was not lost at all...
