Anyone know if its possible to start Tesla without key fob?

Generally traveling or going out let's say in NYC .  I carry one key and my wife has one in purse.
What if I'm alone lose key in bar during a binge. Or poker game gone bad....

Can I get car started via Tesla or some app. Similar to OnStar?

I think the proper term for the Model S is 'enable traction.' Start sounds like something that you must do to ICE.

If you lose key in bar during binge you probably shouldn't be driving ;)

And most likely if you're in NYC your in a valet garage and they have your fob.

One alternative is putting the fob in an ESD Baggie and leaving it in the car and then using your phone to unlock it. Better make sure you don't lost your phone though and that you have enough battery left in it. Plus if your in an underground garage your trusting that the MS has at least a slight bar for Internet connection.

Tony,

No, you will NOT be able to power up the car without the key fob...

In the scenario you described, you will need to find your wife who has the other fob.

I have encounter this before. We only brought one fob, was in my wife's purse. I dropped her and my 6yr old off, only holding the breaks and without putting the car in park, then I drove off forgetting she had the fob. I drove to a charging station 1 mile away, stopped to charge. When I was ready to pick her up, I got the "Key not in car, unable to start" message... I called Tesla, and they can NOT remote start the car for security reasons.. So my wife / son had to walk over to the car.. :)

My husband dropped me off at a restaurant then went to find a parking space.  I had the key fob.  The car continued to drive as he circled the block looking for a spot with the "key fob no longer in car" message illuminated.

Must be a recent addition. I had to chase my wife to work when she drove off without the fob

Ah, that's new, must of been added in recent updates. My incident happened last year September i think, the car did not say a thing when I drove off without the fob.

Looking for owners in Hamilton, NJ.

The Hamilton Post would like to do a story on the new Supercharger.   Is there anyone here who lives in Hamilton (yeh I know, this Supercharger affects you least of all)

Also do we have a good contact into the Tesla Supercharger team.  The Editor would like to know about local contractors that might be doing the work and such.

I have the business card of the Tesla person in charge of the supercharger network nationwide. It's at home.
I can get you the contact info tonight.
