Looks like one owner is having some structural integrity issues with his aftermarket 19" Rial Lugano's.  I would steer clear of these wheels for now if you were considering them for 19" aftermarket "turbines".

Thanks, Dennis. Given the crappy roads here (especially with all the potholes that develop in the winter) I am hesitant to buy a setup with 20" wheels and something that would result in less than 45 profile tires. (Although I like the look and want to)
I've been toying with putting on a setup with 20" and 40 or 45 profile but that changes the handling. And puts the speedo and odometer off. Hmm...

I just got a set of Rials about 2 weeks ago, so far so good. This is the only report I've seen of anyone having a problem with them, I believe some owners have had them for over a year. I wonder how deep the potholes this guy hit were?  I'll report back if I have any problems.

A set of 245/40/20" would put the tire diameters at 27.7" which would match the OEM tire diameters - speedometer & odometer would remain accurate.  Hankook Ventus S1 noble2 & Continental ExtremeContact DWS are very highly rated tires that size (I'm only considering Ultra High Performance All Season w\ >= 500 UTQG ratings).  For those two tires, they are also offered in 275/35/20" w\ diameter of 27.56" if you want a staggered setup in the rear.  Sidewall heights are 98mm for the 245s and 96.25mm for the 275s.   For comparison, OEM 19s have sidewall height of 110.25mm and OEM 21s have a sidewall height of 85.75.   So those 20s put you right smack in the middle.  Unforuntaely Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 is not made in 245/40/20" or 255/40/20" so IMO that rules them out for a front tire (which sucks, I love Michelin and those tires are rated very good).  245/45/20" are too big, 255/35/20" are too small.  265's are too wide for the front which sucks.  Plus the tire diameter isn't the best for 265 20s (265/35/20" comes to 27.39" diameter, and besides the sidewall height is 92.75mm and thats getting towards that same low profile of the 21s which I do not want).

Obviously I have been doing my homework here and fully plan on getting 20s when I burn through my 19s.  I want a staggered setup and I want to use a smaller offset to make the tires fill out the wheel wells.  I haven't made up my mind on wheels yet.  I am leaning towards the Continentals considering some of the user reviews have said they've lasted over 100k miles before needing replacement vs Hankook might not last as long (granted those were from cars weighing 1/2 the weight of the Model S, nevertheless that's pretty damn good).  AFAIK Continental as a company has much more experience and I would say they probably make a more reliable tire. (well, that might not say much though because look at Tesla vs everyone else...hahah.  History != quality).

Right now I am leaning towards 20x8.5" or 9.0" rims in the front with Continental ExtremeContact DWS 245/40R20s , and 20x9.5" rims in the back with Continental ExtremeContact DWS 275/35R20s in rear.  Now I just need to found a hub-centric rim I like with the correct offset, bolt pattern, load rating, and style I like.  Most aftermarket rims have a larger center bore so a centering ring will likely be necessary.  A big plus would be a lightweight rim (less than 19" OEM factory) to reduce the unsprung weight, aka performance gains :)

from his post, he only hit the potholes at 30-35mph which is VERY slow IMO.  He had Bridgestone Blizzaks LM60s on.  They are rated at max PSI of 45 though so I'm not sure if they had a role in the bent rims...I don't have any experience with pure winter tires so I"m not sure if their are "caveats" to them like this.

Wow, thanks Dennis for sharing this good info. I think I will go with non staggered and 8.5 or 9.0 width for both front and rear.
I've been thinking about the less expensive forged TSW Interlagos. I like the look of the current standard 19" and wish they made a similar one in 20". I don't want to spend thousands and thousands on wheels.

I agree, 30-35 is slow, but if the pothole is really deep, that's plenty fast to cause a problem like this. The slower speed could even be why he only has rim damage and not tire damage as well. It seems that at that speed it should not have been difficult to see and avoid the pothole and considering it has happened to this one driver twice, perhaps it's more of an operator issue? We don't really know for sure. I'm not overly concerned about it, plenty of people have had damaged rims with the Tesla wheels as well.

Hi Dennis,  I am planning the exact same setup of staggered 20" wheels and probably the hanooks.   I'm considering these wheels.
http://www.wtwcorp.com/wheels_details.php?products_id=109&categories_id=6#

I've emailed them and each is load rated at 1600lbs.  Although I confess I'm not sure yet what tesla specs are.  Any thoughts?  Appreciate ur feedback.  I'm just not sure who to get to put them on properly.  Thx!

Looks like another owner just hit a pothole at 30mph with the Rials and bent 3 of the 4 rims. http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/27569-Four-Rial-Lugano-19-wheels-bent-in-two-weeks-are-they-up-to-the-task?p=590367&viewfull=1#post590367

Didn't someone on here just say they bent the factory 19s? The service center also said they're fixing a lot of factory 19s also, the roads are just that bad right now.
