Teslacam disappointment

I was in a fender bender about a month ago, and I decided to look through the Tesla cam videos to see what happened. I assumed that since it was a fairly substantial jolt that the Tesla cam would have recorded it. Instead, all I found were hundreds of miscellaneous videos of my car sitting in my garage.

Yesterday morning, I was almost hit by a car running through a yield sign, forcing me to take emergency avoidance measures. I leaned on the horn. When I went back through the sentrycam clips, there was nothing there, and the recent clips only went back to yesterday noon. So the two times I actually needed the Tesla cam to record something of value, it didn’t.

Agreed, I had an incident where someone opened up their car door and dinged my car. Luckily I noticed the alert when I got back in the car, I saw the clip and took down the license plate. I have a thumb drive connected to hold more clips, but after a few days that clip was no longer there. Random clips before and after were kept, but not the one specifically showing the ding.

I believe you have to manually hit the camera icon to save the previous 10 minutes of recording to the memory stick. I know you can also set it up so that it saves on a 'honk' of the horn. Not sure what the default is.

Definitely set 'On Honk', then you just tap it to grab the last ten mins. Also double check that you're not on Sentry in your garage so using lot's of space and that you have plenty of storage so it's not being overwritten.

Thanks to all who have chipped in. I reformatted the drive that came with the car. There was nothing on it of any value to me.

I have taken the advice here and turned off the constant recording and will use a honk or the camera icon if there is something worth capturing.
