hello fellow NJers,
my name is Jared Theaman and I'm from Wayne, NJ and I am posting this to warn you of this: http://nj.gov/emp/docs/pdf/2011_Final_Energy_Master_Plan.pdf

This is the NJ Clean Energy Program and it explains that by 2020, the utility companies NEED to meet a quota to produce clean energy.
1. Phase 1 of this program has been visible to everyone: the solar panels on the utility poles.
2. Phase 2 is they are looking for more places to put panels
3. Phase 3 is they are actively seeking homeowners to volunteer their roof space for solar panels (the catch is your house has to qualify by getting enough sun)
3b. if the roof qualifies they pay for you to go solar and warranty, insure, monitor, and maintain their panels for the length of the agreement.
3c. you agree to buy the energy that the panels produce which is WAY cheaper than the energy from PSE&G and JCP&L
4. If the utility companies do not meet this quota they will be getting a huge fine.
5. I am getting the word out to as many environmentally friendly people as I can and I hope you can spread this message.
6. If you don't already have solar panels on your roof please reply to this or shoot me a text/call and I can gladly get you in contact with the right people.

Thank you for reading this and for impacting the environment in a positive way.

Sunny days,
Jared

Confused, are you warning us to stay away from this program?

Hey Dennis,
Sorry for the confusion. I'm not trying to deter anyone from this program, just making sure they are getting in touch with the right people if they want to go solar. Avoiding the companies that put a lien on your home, charge higher rates, or don't reimburse for lost power (i.e. SolarCity, Sungevity, Vivint Solar, NRG)
The most professional company to do the program through is SunRun.

Any breaks if you have solar already?

No breaks. But they have a referral program for people that already have solar. $500 visa gift card per referral that goes solar.

This sounds like bias marketing to me. Why is sunrun better than SCTY?

Keith,
My bias is based on FACTS ONLY. In the SolarCity agreement it says "A UCC-1 fixture filing" will be on your home and in the eyes of an underwriter or loaner that is considered a LIEN ON YOUR HOME. The reason why SunRun is the best choice for NJ homeowners is that they have a production guarantee, and they BEAT every other solar companies rate, and also have a referral program running from now until January 1st: for every referral that goes solar you will receive a visa gift card for $500. Install time on Solar City systems take NO SHORTER than 6 months from signing, which is ridiculously long wait time. SunRun installs take between 2-4 months depending on town policy. And last but not least Keith, I used to work for Solar City and wouldn't give them my business, very unprofessional, I love Elon Musk, but SunRun was the better option and plus they do have a partnership with Tesla for the PowerWall as well.

Jared,

Do you have a comparison of the different vendors? I am assuming the technology is the same it's the service that's different? How much do they cost if you purchase up front, or lease over the years? Any subsidy differences? Does this impact my insurance in any way? If a panel/shingle needs to be repaired/replaced, who pays? I'm new to solar energy but am very interested (I'm in 08540)

Thanks

Charlie

Solar shingles are very inefficient, technology won't be there for at least another 5 years.

They use panels manufactured in the USA by REC Solar, top of the line, and efficient. There's different options for your rate depending on what utility you have. I'll email you privately Keith.

Hey Charlie,
I do have a comparison of the different companies and will show you why SunRun is the best. Technology for the most part is the same, yes: service varies. There are 3 different options to either purchase the energy up front or pay monthly (lease). Doesn't impact insurance. They're able to monitor the panels through cellular and if there's ever anything wrong with the panels they'll likely know before you since it's monitored around the clock and will send someone out to fix it. They insure, warranty, maintain, and monitor the panels for the length of the agreement. Shoot me an email so I could send you the comparison sheet and if you want we can run the numbers to see how much money going solar will save you, and what the design would look like on your home.

Jared,

the document is way too long...however I'm interested in your experience and your comparison of all providers. I've been going back and forth (for over a year) with Solar City to get a small solar system installed with a powerwall and I think they are simply not interested.

Do you think that SunRun would be willing to work with me?

SolarCity came out multiple times to my house even though I told them the tree cover and light would probably not suffice.. They were very thorough even though it didn't work out and were very respectful in saying it would be a waste of money for me.  They told me I had some of the cheapest electricity in the northeast.  I'm glad they saved me the hassle.  I refer since solar city reps if you need.

Yes Jared, unfortunately only 1/4 homes qualify for solar due to the shading from the trees like in your case. Either cut them down or go solar on your next house! Lucky that you have inexpensive electricity already.

Thanks Jared. My rep is fine and they came out and did the survey but in the end, they would not do a small system and they want me to cut or at least trim some trees which I'm reluctant to do. That's why I said that they are not interested.

Yeah.. All the solar companies are the same and it makes sense.  If there is not a clear margin where there is money to be made, the leasing doesn't make sense.  It will be really interesting after Solar City starts making their world record panels setting in their new Buffalo plant in high quantity.  Eventually even low levels of sunlight will be beneficent l beneficial.

supposedly Panasonic has brand new solar panels coming out that are even more efficient than SolarCity's yet to be released panels. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2015/10/panasonic-steals-solarcitys-thunder-unveils-worlds-most-efficient-solar-panel/ i think there may have been another company that said something too.  the solar panel war is on lol  i'll let these guys beat each other down on pricing before I join the game.

Looking forward to when solar shingles are more efficient.  I have great southern exposure, but it is on the front of my house and my wife is not a fan of panels on the front of our house.
