The Dean's Office in the Faculty of Arts & Science (St George campus), is seeking a teaching stream faculty member at the rank of Lecturer in the area of English Language Learning programming beginning July 1, 2011.

Qualified candidates must have at least one post-graduate degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) in a relevant field, with extensive experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching writing and language skills to multilingual students at the university level in a range of disciplinary rhetorics.

The successful candidate will lead and administer Faculty-wide initiatives on English academic writing and support for multilingual speakers across the Faculty of Arts & Science. She/he will report to the Vice-Dean, Teaching and Learning, in the Faculty of Arts & Science. She/he will also be appointed as a member of New College and will be a member of its Writing Centre faculty.

Applicants should possess:

demonstrated ability to build effective language learning environments among a multilingual group of students; deep understanding of the challenges facing students working in a second language at the university level and of the socio-cultural dimensions of language learning; experience working with administrators, faculty and teaching assistants to develop, administer, and evaluate writing and language-related curriculum for multilingual students, across a variety of fields; the ability to identify and solve curriculum delivery challenges; the ability to understand and evaluate state-of-the art research in writing, especially related to multilingual speakers; experience coordinating and supervising teaching teams, including pedagogical assistance for instructors and teaching assistants in teaching academic language skills to multilingual learners; demonstrated ability to design effective instructional materials; knowledge and comfort using technology in teaching and delivering English language learning instruction, including writing; experience working with university writing centres; ability to manage complex collaborative activities with tact and efficiency.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Appointments at the rank of Lecturer may be renewed annually to a maximum of five years. In the fifth year of service, Lecturers shall be reviewed and a recommendation made with respect to promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer.
