I got a new phone, a Google Pixel 4a. I am transferring data and settings from my old phone, an HTC One M8. I made a Whatsapp backup that saved to Google Drive then installed Whatsapp on the new phone, it detected the backup and I have all my chats, photos and animated gifs.

In Whatsapp > Settings > Chat backup I have NOT enabled "Include Videos" yet somehow all videos that were sent to me via Whatsapp when I was using it on my old phone ARE in my new phone? Maybe that was because of how I transferred data between the old and the new phone during the initial setup? I used the Google Pixel app and both phones were connected via a cable. I can play these videos on the new phone in the "Files" app.

In Whatsapp > Manage Storage .. it only sees about 300MB of used space. But when I connect the phone to the laptop and browse the Whatsapp media folder all the videos ARE in there in the Whatsapp Video folder, taking up almost 2GB. Yet they will not play IN Whatsapp, only via the "Files" app.

Possible solution?
It's like Whatsapp doesn't see the videos even though they are there? Maybe it's because of how those videos got on the new phone in the first place? Did that Google Pixel Setup Wizard put them in the wrong place? They were originally in the internal storage of my old phone and my new phone only has internal storage also.

As an example of a video that was originally sent to me via Whatsapp on my old phone but does not play in Whatsapp on the new phone but DOES play in the "Files" app... From the "Files" app I can see its location is:/storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Media/WhatsApp Video/ViD-2021.....mp4

An example of an image that does display in Whatsapp on the new phone when I check it in the "Files" app its location is:/storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.whatsapp/Whatsapp/Media/WhatsApp Images/IMG-2021.....jpg

Now when I go back in to Whatsapp this time the thumbnail of the video is no longer greyed out suggesting that I just have to click on the thumbnail for the video to play but when I do I still get the same error message:

DID make them play in Whatsapp... What was confusing me is the first few videos I was testing to playback within Whatsapp had been deleted by the original sender at their end so they weren't playing but for an entirely different reason!

As to why I had all my Whatsapp videos on the new phone even though I had not enabled Whatsapp to backup videos that was because the Pixel install wizard transferred them over from my old phone. Whatsapp > Manage Storage.. was only seeing about 300MB of used space because the Whatsapp videos were copied over from the old phone to the wrong place on the new phone where Whatsapp wasn't looking.

I guess that's just a feature of how Whatsapp works: if someone sends you a video via Whatsapp and then subsequently deletes it at their end from their Whatsapp conversation with you it will no longer play from your Whatsapp... EVEN if you still have the video in the Whatsapp media folder in your phone!

Photos and videos sent to me in Whatsapp are automatically appearing in my Gallery (on Huawei P30) but are not then syncing to Dropbox. Not sure how long this has been happening. I'm sure they used to sync along with my other photos and videos but have only just noticed so now am missing lots of photos from friends and family and have no idea how to find them. As well as setting this up for the future, is there a way to force sync everything that has been sent to me in Whatsapp?

I dont want to loose the photos and videos, but at the same time i dont want to store them locally on my phone, is there a way i can store them in iCloud ? Ideally i dont want to store the photos / videos to my camera roll, but would like to just unload some of the whatsapp data to the cloud.

I think there is a feature in whatsapp where you can export a chat / group inc the messages and media, but my phone is so full with whatsapp i cant even export this data as there is no space free to export it too !

What i think the best solution is: Go to Whatsapp -> Settings -> Chats. Enable Save to camera roll. From now, all your incoming photos and videos will be saved automatically into your Photo app. The name of the album with the saved photos and videos is called WhatsApp. But the incoming photos and videos are also saved locally in the WhatsaApp app.

I am unable to forward videos on whatsapp web since the last week. A small error symbol appears with the forwarded message that says "Couldn't send this message" when I hover my mouse over it. I can use all other whatsapp functionality. I can even send videos by uploading. Text and picture messages can be forwarded as usual, only there is a problem in the video. The message stays like this indefinitely. Other messages are sent and received correctly after this one.

Let me start by saying that i do not have any knowledge of cryptology. My question regarding images etc in whatsapp arose because a developer friend said that its the messages which are encrypted. Images, video files which get saved in a whatsapp folder, can be seen by opening the local device folder anytime without going through whatsapp, can be forwarded to any contact not on whatsapp cannot be encrypted in the same sense as chats are.

Another point he said was that as whatsapp keeps images, video files for few days for meeting some 'legal requirements', if these were encrypted, irrespective of legal requirements, whatsapp would not be able to see those images and video. So keeping these images for sometime wouldnot help whatsapp in meeting those legal requirements.

I am not talking about MIM attach atall. I am aware of chats being E2EE. Thus you will not be able to locate chats in your device folder. And you will not be able to share chats to 3rd person outside whatsapp directly from folder. But images/videos in whatsapp get saved in a device whatsapp folder. And you can send those images/videos directly to 3rd person outside whatsapp directly from your folder. If images too were E2EE, these couldnt not be shared, just the way chats cant be shared from any folder.

Whatsapp saves images/video for sometime. What use is saving these if these are encrypted? Even if there were legal requirements, whatsapp cant decrypt them, if these were E2EE! So can E2EE attachments be saved outside the whatsapp in some local device folder and shared outside whatsapp directly?

I just spent two hours with Samsung support trying to get my issue resolved. The issue is that I am unable to send video over whatsapp. Videos that are forwarded from other phones I can upload without an issue - just not videos shot in the S22. Four different 'customers service' people took remote control of my phone and did all...the problem is still there. Ultimately they terminated the chat ....never known samsung customer service to be this bad

I have been trying to transfer photos and videos which were sent by whatsapp to sandisk ixpand flash drive but have been unable to do this, anyone know of any way in which I can transfer from whatsapp?

I tried removing .nomedia file from Whatsapp Images folder but I see no such file. I already enabled to see hidden files. Also in Whatsapp the option to see media in gallery is On. Any other idea how to solve this?

Exporting information from a closed system like WhatsApp allows you to have control over its preservation. Even if WhatsApp disappears, you will still have your information. You can decide how to organize it, where it is stored, how many copies you have, who has access, and how you want to preserve it in the long-term. A good organization and storage plan can enable you to reliably locate and retrieve your content whenever you need it.

I want to save a URL link which is in Whatsapp to my smartphone.
I prefer saving only the link and not the entire Whatsapp message along with it.
How do I do that apart from starring the message or even archiving the message which I have already tried and are working? Where is the URL link saved in the smartphone?

Step 3. After the scan, check "Whatsapp Attachments" from the left menu. Then preview the detailed items on the right before selecting what you wish to restore. Finally, click on "Recover" to save the deleted videos on your computer.

WhatsApp offers several in-app editing features for media, and among them is the ability to send videos without sound. WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging app in the world. Apart from messages, it lets users share images, videos, and documents. It also allows users to send disappearing messages, voice notes, location, and even payments in some countries. WhatsApp can be used on up to four devices at a time, making it a great all-purpose messaging app.

Whenever you delete a video from WhatsApp, it does not disappear permanently. Instead, it is moved into the Recently Deleted folder and will exist there for 30 days. If you are lucky enough to open the Recently Deleted folder within 30 days, you are likely to find them back.

WhatsApp allows us to upload images and photos to share occasions, thoughts, events, etc. with family and friends, which is known as Status. Similar to disappearing stories of Instagram and Snapchat, this WhatsApp Status will automatically disappear after 24 hours. If you come across some interesting status videos, then you may want to know how to save WhatsApp Status videos on iPhone.

Notice!!! Founder of rival app Telegram, Pavel Durov, says WhatsApp is consistently being used as a Trojan horse to spy on users' non-WhatsApp content. To have a safe bet, backing up Whatsapp videos is a task which brooks no delay.

Google Photos continues to be the best photo management app for Android, and it's no surprise that it works well for managing WhatsApp media. Still, keep your Google Photos feed organized. If you don't, you'll learn how quickly 15GB of free Google Drive storage can disappear.

i work as a security specialist engineer at a moderate
enterprise.
recently my superiors have asked me to block whatsapp file transfer only(meaning chat would still work).
however i've tried anything using our Fw's but to no avail.
