Poster Art of the Disney Parks is also great for its depth of treatment. It would have been easy for the authors to focus only on Walt Disney World and Disneyland and call it a day at that, as most tourists purchasing the books in the parks probably have never been to the international theme parks, but the authors gave nearly equal treatment to Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and the Tokyo Disney Resort. I am glad that this decision was made, as many of my favorite posters in the book are those from Paris and Tokyo. I about jumped out of my chair when I saw the poster for the Country Bear Christmas Special from Tokyo Disneyland, a poster I did not know existed, but now one that I must own!

I posted a couple of replies back in 2012 about this book and I still treasure it. I really wanted to remove and display some of the pages as miniature posters, but the thought of mangling the book was too much to bear. I solved that over the last several years by buying (IIRC) four additional copies of the book, some of them used, so I could remove pages from those and still keep at least one copy intact. I believe I currently still have two unmodified copies.

Anyone who has ever walked through the gates at a Disney Park knows that there is a magical experience waiting to be had on the other side. All of the telltale signs are there: the sound of joyful music pipes across the promenade; the smells of popcorn and cookies waft through the air; and the colorful attraction posters depict all the wonderful rides and shows created for Guests by the Imagineers.

Join us for a virtual exploration of posters and concept art from Disney parks around the world, Co-authors Vanessa Hunt and Daniel Handke will discuss the making of the expanded second edition of the book, which features 85 new art pieces.

Another 2024 calendar has arrived at Walt Disney World Resort. The Disney Attraction Poster Calendar featuring entertainment calendar is now available. A more standard 2024 16-month calendar was released in June, but this new 12-month calendar features Disney Live Entertainment art posters, so even when the year is done, you can hold onto memories of your favorite Disney Parks shows.

September is starting to get spooky with Disney Villains After Hours. The poster features Hades, his flaming blue hair forming the silhouettes of different Disney Villains and Cinderella Castle. Disney Villains After Hours last took place in the summer of 2020.

The second edition of Poster Art of the Disney Parks is a stunning collection of posters from Disney theme parks around the world, featuring more than 85 new posters, as well as concept art pieces and a lively narrative about their behind-the-scenes development. It is not just a book but an entire experience that transports readers to the heart of the Disney Parks from the comfort of their favorite reading chair.

This is precisely the feeling I had just opening the second edition of Poster Art of the Disney Parks. What I expected was a lovely large coffee table book featuring different Park posters on every page. What I got was a story, a creative journey, a behind-the-scenes look at just how much thought goes into creating the posters, as well as a huge nostalgia trip. There are a variety of vibrant voices quoted throughout the book, with insights about the development of the posters over the years and the interconnection among art, typography, and graphic design. I did not expect much text in this book, but the text readers do get is worthwhile, rich and interesting, especially for art buffs, Disney fans, and history and entertainment enthusiasts. The colors, too, are vibrant and dreamy and it helps that the overly large pages help readers feel like they are almost falling into the art.

In addition to taking a trip down memory lane, Poster Art of the Disney Parks also takes readers to Parks they may have never been to before. This is also a huge plus for this book as it is not limited to Park posters for one or two Parks. I am lucky enough to have been to Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida, but I dream of also venturing to Disney Parks in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai (and perhaps others to come!). It was fascinating to see the different poster designs for different Parks across the world, as well as to see how they have evolved over time. While I may not have any global Disney Parks trips planned yet, this book took me there in the meantime!

This book is also an inspiring showcase of the many, many art styles used by Disney artists. There is no one uniform look and Walt Disney is fondly remembered as embracing all forms of creativity. In addition to the art styles, the layout features different sizes of posters throughout, making each page a visual feast. The images are crisp and clear which is helpful to those who are otherwise trying to hunt down these treasure pieces from unclear scans or older photographed copies found on the internet.

Each Passholder must be present and show their valid Annual Pass card, linked MagicBand/MagicBand+ or Disney MagicMobile pass, as well as a government-issued photo ID, to receive the mini poster.
Limit one mini poster per Passholder.

This poster was my first love. I hung it in my bedroom as a teenager in 1977 when the attraction premiered. There is no poster for Space Mountain when it opened a few years earlier at Magic Kingdom. It simply took on this poster after it opened at Disneyland.

This is a great example of a poster that takes advantage of the silk screening technique. What I love is how the color choices truly pop out. Below is the original but variations have been done for Tokyo and Disneyland Paris. Also a Tarzan version was done for Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland.

I should mention this piece which was framed at the entrance of Spaceship Earth, but really does not mention the attraction by name. It really was more of a promotional piece for Epcot, not specifically as an attraction poster.

Captain America: The Winter Solider is dated for release April 4, 2014, but this week, we were treated to a brand-new trailer of the film, along with a stunning poster (see gallery below) that showcases Cap flying high above ground.

Walt Disney nurtured the idea of Disneyland for years. Throughout the late 1940s and early 1950s he visited other amusement parks and carnivals with an eye towards creating his own. He began to envision a cleaner theme-based park where families could become a part of the magical world that his films depicted on the big screen. In 1952, he assembled a small group of artists and designers from his Walt Disney Studio staff and created a new company called WED (his own initials) to help make his amusement park dream a reality.

The Disney empire continued to expand after the deaths of its founders. By the turn of the century, five cities around the world were home to 13 Disney theme parks, 46 resort hotels, a Disney cruise line and guided vacation experiences. In 2013 alone, Walt Disney attractions saw more than 132.5 million park visitors. The original park in Anaheim, Disneyland remains a popular vacation destination. The Baby Boomers still visit, now with their own children and grandchildren in tow. More than five decades since its opening, an antique lamp still burns bright in Walt Disney's personal apartment above the firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A. in memory of the man who dreamt up "the happiest place on earth."

All four of the t-shirts featured so far come from Disney Design Group Artist Richard Terpstra who was inspired by the Disney attraction posters seen in books and in the parks. To be honest, seeing them all as I walk through the train station of Magic Kingdom is always one of my favorite moments.

REVIEW: Disney Publishing recently released in October a new second edition of the popular Poster Art of the Disney Parks coffee table book. This second edition includes 100 more pages than the previous edition and has been updated with more than 85 new posters. The original book was released 10 years ago in 2012.

Poster Art of the Disney Parks is a large oversized coffee table book measuring at 11.5 x 1.13 x 14.38 inches. Some of the poster art that is featured in this book get their own page with the poster image size being a large 8 x 11.75 which are around the same size of the deluxe poster art prints that are sold in the Disney Parks.

The book starts off with an introduction from Disney Legend Tony Baxter. The chapters of the book are broken out by the different Disney Parks themed lands for the castle parks. There are additional chapters showcasing Shanghai Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Sea, Disney California Adventure, and Epcot posters.

Disney theme park posters are works of art that are the trailers for guests that are entering the park. It is very interesting to see the different versions of the posters from the same attraction from different Disney theme parks all over the world.

Haunted Mansion fans will enjoy seeing posters from Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Tokyo Disneyland. A Mystic Point poster from Hong Kong Disneyland features Mystic Manor. Phantom Manor posters from Disneyland Paris are on display in the Frontierland chapter.

There are some poster artwork featured in the book from attractions and shows that are no longer around any more which may hit you in the feels. Seeing those posters brought back some great memories and put a smile on my face. A prime example being the Country Bear Jingle Bell Jamboree and Country Bear Vacation Hoedown which are no longer at Walt Disney World, but those shows are still around in Tokyo Disneyland.

Some of the pages in the book feature behind the scenes concept art sketches that were made to help come up with the final art for the attraction poster. My all time favorite Disney attraction from Shanghai Disneyland, Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure, is one of the attractions that gets this treatment in the book that shows the process of creating the poster from the roughs to refining the composition to rough color to final line to the final magnificent poster.
