In the fields of nuclear energy, many Control & Instrumentation systems including In Service Inspection Systemswere designed, developed & deployed for Nuclear Reactors ranging from PHWR, AHWR, LWR, PFBR, to new generation Research Reactors & C&I for reprocessing facilities. Development of simulators for Nuclear Power Plants are immense as they provide the best training facilities for the reactor personal and also for licensing of reactor operators.

With strong expertise in these fields, many full-fledged systems as well as individual components were designed, developed and deployed in Nuclear reactors, Nuclear fuel cycle facilities & Accelerators, which demand cutting edge knowledge and commitment.

Core competencies cover a wide spectrum and include Process Sensors, Radiation Detectors, Nuclear Instruments, Microelectronics, MEMS, Embedded Real Time Systems, Modelling & Simulation, Computer Networks, High Integrity Software Engineering, High performance DAQ systems, High Voltage Supplies, Digital Signal Processing, Image Processing, Deep Learning, Motion Control, Security Electronics, Medical Electronics etc.

Being a national laboratory, BARC always extends a helping hand for supporting national initiatives in the fields of Science and Technology. The collaborations with other scientific agencies are innumerable, where knowledge as well as technology is shared. Development of stabilization systems for Seekers, Antenna Platform Unit for LCA multi-mode Radar, Servo systems for IDSN32- 32 meter antenna which tracked Chandrayaan-I and Mangalyaan, Instrumented PIG for Oil Pipe line inspection,Servo control and camera electronics for MACE telescope, Radiometry and Radiation Monitoring Systems etc. are a few among them.

Catering to the ever-growing needs of computing and communication facilities to support the multi-disciplinary activities is a herculean task. The ANUPAM Supercomputer project at BARC has been fulfilling this ever-increasing demand for number crunching power for the last few decades. Secure Network Access System handles the information security aspects of the organization. Research and Development is also carried out in the areas of Machine Learning, High-end Scientific Visualization, Network Security, Information Security, Medical imaging software, Advanced Database Systems and other emerging areas.

Design of electronic systems which can withstand harsh environment, is always a challenge. Many such systems were designed, developed and deployed for such environments proving technological supremacy. Embedded systems for Special purpose reactors, Process Sensors, High temperature fission chambers, fueling controls, ultrasound scanners operating under high temperature liquid sodium, etc. are some of the examples.

The success of nuclear technologies, depends on the development of safety critical systems. Many safe and secure PLCs were developed both for in-house utilization as well as for industrial applications.

Various technology spin-offs include products developed for industrial, medical, transportation, security, aero-space and defense applications. Generic electronic productslike Qualified Programmable Logic Controller platform (TPLC-32), suitable for deployment in safety critical applications, Reactivity meters, Machinery Protection systems, Security Gadgets for Physical Protection, Access Control Systems, Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems, CCTV & Video surveillance Systems, Scanning Electron Microscope, VHF Communication Systemshave been developed as part of the indigenization process.
