At the beginning of the film, Dr. Nefario makes a jelly that is a combination of many flavors, however it turns out to have a horrible taste. Dr. Nefario informs Gru that he misses being evil and that he has a new work. Later, as a farewell for Dr. Nefario, the Minions do a 21 Fart Guns salute and Dr. Nefario slowly rides away on his motor scooter to start his new life, making two minions cry (possibly Jerry and Phil).

Since Russell Brand couldn't reprise his role of Dr Nefario in the third film since he was unavailable, the character makes a brief appearance in Despicable Me 3. During his talk with the Minions, Gru mentions that Dr. Nefario had previously frozen himself in a big block of Carbonite by accident. By that time, some minions are knocking off the outside pieces of the Carbonite block, trying to free him. While Gru sat alone in his lab, having lost most of the Minions, due to not wanting to go back to villainy, the frozen Dr. Nefario is once again seen having been moved to one side of the lab. He is last seen in a flashback prior to being frozen when Mel began recounting the times he had together with Gru.

In the post credits scene, when Gru attempts to recruit Nefario, the scientist, while closing the Criminal Records shop, declined, saying that he is done with villainy and that he is gonna move on, packing Freeze Ray in the boxes along. When he bids Gru goodbye, the latter and the Minions began giving him puppy-eyes which made Nefario change his mind. He then gives Gru and the minions a ride on an airship, which Gru would later use in the future. This marks the beginning of a new relationship that leads to the 21st century.

For over 300 years the white Dutch proletarians have by their labour been making their masters and bosses ever richer and richer, and for over 300 years these same Dutch capitalists have been oppressing minions of inhabitants of Asia, robbing and ravaging the Dutch East Indies and drawing countless riches from them.

Despite the monumental significance of Ghana's slave forts and castles during the rise of the Atlantic slave trade, the lesser forts along West Africa's historic Gold Coast remain largely understudied. Through transdisciplinary and transatlantic partnerships with faculty from UCLA, University of Ghana, Legon, and Harvard University, our goal is to conduct a systematic survey of shrines, rituals, deities, and dungeons associated with these monumental sites of human commodification to locate these forts within Afro-European "conjunctures" that linked hinterland captives to overseas markets. By studying these sites of Atlantic slavery in Ghana and the "ritual archive" that they enshrine, we highlight the African parameters of early modern capitalism, rethink the standard narrative of its historical development, and encourage new forms of digital scholarship that deepen rather than disavow our collective engagement with its legacies as we commemorate over 400 years since the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the Americas.
