TwoCala Lilies capturing light and shadow taken in our garden. The container garden we used for these lilies had at least 10 come up at the same time. I enjoy their unique shape and loved the colors of these.
A calla lily has large green leaves sometimes colored with lighter spots. They come from bulbs and are very easily grown in most warm climates. The beautiful flowers that they produce are said to resemble paper rolled into the shape of a tulip. They come in a variety of different colors with orange being one of the most common. Although called lily they are not in the lily family but are named lilies because some of them resemble lilies. They are actually genus zantedeschia which is now called genus calla for obvious reasons.

Hope you are all enjoying our last few weeks of summer. The Mr. and I are soaking up all the time we can with my kids, especially since my youngest heads to kindergarten in the fall (yes, I will be the hysterically sobbing mom in the parking lot in full on ugly cry mode). But, I promise once they are in school full time, you will have tons of great posts coming your way.
When we bought the place, the name Lily Pad Cottage had never been so appropriate as seen in that before pic! I think lily pads are actually so pretty, but maybe not in the water-top carpet format we had. Not to mention the gross, mucky bottom underneath that made enjoying the water pretty much impossible. No one had used the shoreline for many years on this property (you can see in the before pics that there was actually a chain link fence right up to the water) so the lily pads and weeds had pretty much taken over.
We had the beach put in this spring before we moved in and it was the best decision. You can see in these photos that the truck mixes the sand and water pumped from the lake and shoots the mixture back out through a hose into the lake. They first stake down a thick mat right over top of any muck or weeds and then cover it with several inches of the sand mixture.
Love the beach! Who knew they could do this?!
Love my firepit being away from the house a little ways. I like leaving my windows open and the distance between the house and firepit keeps my house from being/smelling smoky whenever we have a fire.
Hi Lauren, there are still PLENTY of lily pads on the lake lol :) My kids like to kayak thru them too. One whole side of our lake is government owned property that is sort of like a nature preserve so there are millions of lily pads and and cool stuff to look at over there!
A lily judge looks for a stem with at least one open flower, the spacing of the flowers (placement on stem), the condition of the flowers, the vigour of the stem, the substance of the flowers, the form of the flowers and the colour of the flowers. The stem can be either a martagon, asiatic, longiflorum, trumpet, oriental, oriental/trumpet (OT) and species. A judge must know the flower itself and whether or not it meets the standard.
Sandi Lynn did it again , she has given us another man to dream about Mr. Luke Matthews !!!! Can you say swoon worthy OMG!!!! And to think some people thought that she couldn't top Conner Black ,but boy we were wrong!! I have to admit I didn't think of Conner not even once in this book . Luke Matthew was amazing from his tough attitude in the beginning of the story to the charmer he became towards the middle and the compassionate and lovable man he is towards the end. I fell in love with him and can we say HOT , everything that came out of his mouth was definitely swoon worthy and those intimacy scenes can we say "cold shower please!! " Lily and Luke gave Conner and Ellery a run for their money lol like wow their were super hot together and hot for each other, I loved every minute of it.
Love In Between was amazing Sandi Lynn wrote an amazing story line and her writing was captivating , I couldn't put the book down. I loved that we got both Lily and Luke's point of view which is always nice. We got introduced to an amazing group of people I loved everyone in this book Sam , Gretchen, Giselle, lucky, Maddie, and Charlie I loved all of these characters. The story line flowed well. We met an amazing heroine Lily Gilmore who had a not so good family unite and was destroyed after she found her sister and her soon to be husband having sex minutes before walking down the aisle . After that she decides to move away and change her life. We met the amazing and sexy Luke Matthews who has also had a tough year after he lost his fianc in a tragic car accident. These two souls meet after thinking they have given up on love , lily moves in right next door of Luke and sparks fly and not in a good way. Even though they were physically attracted to each other they would fight the urge to get to know each other in a personal note. We see how they go from perfect strangers to the perfect couple. I loved their relationship .
This wonderful story is about fate and second chances its about two lost souls who thought they couldn't be happy or feel love or be loved again ,but like they say fate has a different plan for each and everyone of us. We got to see how this beautiful relationship between these two amazing people blossomed into something real and exiting and gave these people a reason to live and hope for a better future full of love and passion.
Sandi Lynn did an amazing job bringing these characters to life , she has become one of my favorite authors I can't wait to continue and see what else is in store for Luke and Lily in the second installment of the series The Upside Of Love, Which comes out next year. 2014 can't come fast enough. I give this book 4.5 amazing stars every one that's a Sandi Lynn fan should definitely read this book you will not be disappointed . The story is amazing , the writing is wonderful the characters are memorable and Luke Matthews is a sex god so what is not to love about this story. It's a must read. Will definitely re read this story again especially if I have to wait a while til book two. By the way there isn't a cliff hanger so the wait will not be tortures.

Zantedeschia aethiopica (calla lily) is a perennial (family Araceae) found along the coast of California, in the North and South Coast Ranges, and in the San Francisco Bay area. Native to South Africa, calla lily is grown as an ornamental plant, and most invading populations are found near human habitations in coastal prairies and wetlands. Calla lily reproduces by bird-dispersed seeds and vegetatively via rhizomes, which may be spread by moving soil or garden cuttings. In western Australia and New Zealand, calla lily is an aggressive invader of riparian areas and pastureland.
