CIDEON implemented the Factory Design Solution from Autodesk at Unitechnik Systems GmbH. The special CAD system enables improved handling in the planning and realization of digital factory models.

Description: Autodesk Factory Design Utilities is a 2D/3D factory layout solution purpose-built to help you make better layout decisions by enabling you to create a Digital Prototype of your factory. It provides tools for integrating 2D layout data with 3D models of factory equipment, creating accurate factory models and 3D visual walkthroughs that help teams collaborate effectively and make more informed decisions before any equipment is installed and commissioned on the factory floor.

Factory Design Utilities provide design tools and an optimized environment for factory floor layout. They also allow you to open legacy DWG facility layouts and add factory intelligence to those drawings. The factory drawings can then be used to populate a 3D layout in Inventor Factory. This helps to bridge the gap between modelling in a 2D enviroment to a 3D space and saving you time in the process.

In the live demo, Nathan walks us through an factory floor layout in AutoCAD Architectural. Nathan goes on to show how useful the Factory Asset library can be when setting up your factory floor plan placing in assets such as machinery and a conveyor belt into the floor plan with relative ease. Following this he shows how users can control factory assets as they see fit through the factory properties tab and then shows how easy it is to sync to inventor.

A: Yes, there is an option in Inventor to sync the factory assembly to Navisworks which has clash detection capabilities. The tool is located on the factory tab at the top in Inventor.

Although created to validate factory layouts, it can be used for much more. An example is using FDU to lay out office space for your company. When using FDU in AutoCAD, it is very similar to users having blocks representing each component and arranging them in the desired location. In fact, FDU in AutoCAD uses standard AutoCAD blocks that have been turned into what FDU calls assets. Inventor works very similarly, except the assets are Inventor part and assembly files that have been turned into assets.

Factory Design Utilities is a bi-directional workflow, so you can start in either software and sync/open in the other software. For example, if you start in the Inventor software, you will click the New option and select StandardFactoryLayout.iam from the list. This will start a new file with geometry that represents a factory floor and activate the Factory ribbon. The Model Browser will look the same as any Inventor assembly file.

Most factory layouts today are done in AutoCAD, because so many engineers know how to use it and it gets the job done quickly. However, there are no tools in AutoCAD to determine if the layout is optimal, nor are there ways to visualize what your layout will look like in 3D. In this course, Introduction to Autodesk Factory Design Utilities, you'll learn the basics of these tools, including how to lay out your factory conceptually, create a 2D representation, quickly generate a 3D model to explore, and create your own objects unique to your layout. First, you'll discover how to schematically layout your factory and check for bottlenecks in the manufacturing process. Next, you'll use an enhanced library to quickly populate the factory floor with familiar AutoCAD tools. Then, you'll see how with no additional effort, a 3D model is constructed that let's you virtually explore your layout. Finally, you'll learn how to work with the model in 3D, if you prefer, and also learn how to add custom objects to the factor library. By the end of this course, you'll know all the basic tools and workflows that are required to get started laying out your factory floor with the powerful and efficient Autodesk Factory Design Utilities. Software required: Factory Design Utilities, Inventor 2017, AutoCAD 2017, Navisworks Manage 2017.

Nathan has worked with SOLIDWORKS, Pro/ENGINEER, AutoCAD, and Inventor over the course of his career. After doing design work for five years, he discovered that he wanted to work more with people. He has worked in the CAD industry ever since, and has met with companies from many different industries all over the United States. After discussing their needs, he has made countless recommendations to improve the way companies design products. He also enjoys learning as many different design applic... moreation as possible.

As the pace of technology development in the architecture, engineering, construction and product design sectors continues to accelerate, the challenges multiply. We offer a range of IT Solutions to help address these challenges.

Our consultants and engineers are constantly in touch with customers, spending time focused on design processes, issues and technology developments. They are at the forefront of new developments impacting manufacturing and construction. Explore the latest news and insight in our blogs, case studies, whitepapers, webinars and news.

As you use Inventor as part of the PDM Collection, you are creating your individual parts and composing assemblies to convey design intent. You can insert AutoCAD Data into inventor, but again it has been seen that issues may arise with too much 2D/3D information all in one place.

If you design layouts using standard components (even with custom parametric requirements) that still require the fabrication detailing from drawings, Factory Design Utilities could benefit you. If you would like to know more or want to find out if Factory Design Utilities can benefit your design process, please get in contact with us at Man and Machine for more information.

IMAGINiT Technologies, a division of Rand Worldwide, helps architects and engineers become more proficient in the use of 3D technologies to design, develop and manage complex engineering projects faster and more cost-effectively.

Autodesk Factory Design Utilities is an interoperable 2D and 3D factory layout and optimization solution built specifically to help you design and communicate the most efficient layout by creating a digital model of your factory. It enhances Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor software with access to interoperable layout workflows and factory-specific content to help improve your design efficiency, accuracy, and communication and is included in the Autodesk Product Design Industry Collection.

Bring the factory to life and improve communication using immersive, high-quality 3D renderings and visualizations. Include models from suppliers in your layout regardless of CAD format, shrink-wrapping and stripping them of unwanted details. Reduce installation risks by analyzing the digital factory model for clashes and space constraints, before they become problems on-site.

Only the Autodesk Product Design Industry Collection which includes Factory Design Utilities adds factory specific functionality to AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Autodesk Navisworks software products and combines them with powerful visualization tools such as Autodesk 3ds Max Design and Autodesk Showcase software to help manufacturers improve innovation, collaboration, and flexibility when responding to changing business requirements.
