4 January 2016 - Polyester chain prices have stayed firm in the last two weeks, in line with a global oil market supported by rising diplomatic ternsion in the Middle East. Prices could however continue dropping in the coming months over excess supply. PRICE DATABASEOur monthly and historical data have been updated with December average prices. Cotton prices were relatively stable in the last month of 2015, by contrast with falling polyester and viscose prices. Yarn prices also retreated in China whereas resisting on other markets.

China Yarn Prices: Domestic and Import Markets (Weekly Report)
5 January 2016 - Yarn prices have further dropped in the last two weeks on the domestic market in China, whereas yarn import prices have slightly increased in yuan terms. Yarn imports are therefore declining, as confirmed by latest official trade data which are below published. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. Historical data are available for download.
Currency Trends in Low-Cost Countries (Monthly Report)
5 January 2016 - Low-cost currencies are expected further dropping in 2016 after most of them already declined in 2015. This would help exporters partly offsetting the dramatic fall of the euro and of the British pound. Emerging countries could therefore let their inflation rates increasing rather than raising interest rates. PRICE DATABASECrude oil prices have today reached a level not seen since 2004 with the polyester prices staying stable so far, nevertheless. The fall of the renminbi in the last days could have more decisive consequences for the global textile and apparel markets.
Viscose fiber prices continue retreating day after day in China, with the decline now exceeding 10% in only four weeks.
We have today added naphtha and mixed xylene prices to our polyester chain page in the price database. This will offer a comprehensive view of the petrochemical chain, from crude oil to polyester fibers.

PRICE DATABASEPolyester staple fiber prices have begun slightly declining in China, in line with a reduction of PTA and MEG prices on the domestic market and a weaker demand before holidays.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has lowered its production forecast for the current season, therefore offering its support to prices. PRICE DATABASEPolyester intermediate prices have remained very firm in Asia, although crude oil prices have further declined, with the Brent today sliding below 30$ per barrel.
Deflation is taking its toll on the global economy, with stock markets today sliding once again over disappointing US retail sales.
US clothing market has been depressed by mild temperatures this fall, as reflected by today's US data whereas floods in the UK, and Paris attacks have affected European consumption.

PRICE DATABASETextile raw material prices have resisted the overall decline of commodity and stock markets in the last week. Fiber and yarn prices have been far from plunging in line with crude oil prices, down 12% over the week.
The restructuring process in China should result in lower capacities, after a series of companies will have filed for bankruptcy. The spun yarn industry and now the polyester intermediate industry have begun to consolidate their facilities with a series of plants being shut down.
Yarn prices have today slid on the international market.
Cotton futures are now clearly falling in China, as authorities plan selling fibers from the state reserves.

19 January 2016 - Inflation rates have started rebounding in most low-cost countries, where authorities may prefer supporting a slowing down economic growth and let consumer prices more rapidly rising. The consecutive rise of nominal wages could however be offset by a fall of currency values, with sharp differences between emerging economies. PRICE DATABASEPolyester chain prices were today rebounding across the board in Asia, in line with the rise of crude oil prices on last Friday. Operating rates are also falling in China, ahead of holidays, offering some support to market prices.
Caprolactam prices continue however sliding in China which could result in lower nylon prices in the coming period.
Yarn prices have increased up to 10 cents over the last seven-day period on the international market.

27 January 2016 - Polyester prices have slightly bottomed out in China, mostly due to lower production and stronger demand ahead of lunar year holidays. The current drop of cotton prices should however pressure polyester prices in the first weeks after holidays.
