SRTM terrain in TerriaJS

Hi, 

I've noticed that Word Terrain provider shows incorrect landcape in my region. 

Our app is intended for planning UAV flights, so it's very important to have correct heights there.

I've compared World Terrain lanscape with one visualized by WorldWind with SRTM dataset and attached the screenshots.

Correct landscape is feeded as WMSBasicElevationModel by WMS server and I would like to use the same SRTM dataset or even the same WMS server as terrain source for my new TerriaJS based app.

So the questions are:

1) Does TerriaJS - Cesium officially support SRTM data?

2) Should I use GeoServerTerrainProvider? Are there any other providers for quering SRTM data?

3) Which software is best for serving SRTM data to Cesium and whether it is commercial or free?

Hi Dmitry,

Those screenshots are very strange. Cesium World Terrain includes SRTM, so it's surprising that WT looks lower resolution than SRTM there. You might consider raising the issue on the Cesium forum, because it could be a World Terrain bug.

If you want to use _just_ SRTM terrain data, the easiest way is to use Cesium Ion and upload the raw SRTM data as GeoTIFFs or whatever. It will create a Cesium-compatible tileset for you. Then you can make TerriaJS use it by setting cesiumTerrainUrl in config.json:

I haven't personally used GeoserverTerrainProvider, so I can't speak to whether or not that's a viable option.

thank you for the answer I'll keep Cesium Ion in mind. 

I've also tested MapTiler DEM:

Dear Dmitry,

Not related to your question but I noticed that you be able to change the default text in interface to your own language. Could you point me to some starting step to change text in the menu. Or better if Terria have a localization dictionary, I would like to make some translation to my language.
