Somewhile ago, when I visited an authorized Apple dealer complaining about my Macbook Pro overheating, the guy who worked there installed a fan-control app without asking me. Through this app I could control the fan settings at all time, making sure my mac didn't overheat.

As this type of software might harm the mac, I uninstalled the app by moving it to the bin. Is there anything else I should do to make sure the app and associated files are completely removed from my computer? Should I check any settings, making sure the fan works as it is used to?

To answer your question that you have deleted the application already. You could download the fan control application again, open it and then quit it. then you can drag it onto AppCleaner to remove associated files.

Do you not recommend AppCleaner at all? I've seen other people recommend this application for uninstalling third party applications. I just want to make sure I provide correct information in the future.

Thank you for asking. From being here almost 20 years and seeing the havoc many third-party apps have caused, I have to agree with Bob. The big issue I have is that app removal apps are almost always hyped by download hosting sites and most of those are notorious for giving you unwanted nasties with those "free" downloads.

In reading the OPs initial question I would hope he can recall the name of the app so we could walk him through a manual check. If not, we can recommend a safe, trusted, and Mac-friendly reporting app in the Mac App Store, EtreCheck, that can flag orphaned files for removal, as in this case, where the .app part was trashed but its support files may remain in other file locations.

I did a little research on AppCleaner and found that MacWorld did an article on it a few years back. Also it lists all the support files that it finds so one can make a decision to remove them or not but new people might not know. I currently use a different app uninstaller for my own Mac but I do get the point about third party cleaner applications (CleanMyMac is one that comes to mind.) doing more harm then good.

I moved the application to the trash some while ago, but as I understand, there might still be som hidden files on my computer. I Googled, and people recommended to search through the "library folders" for files that includes the name. I didn't find much - can you help me in locating these files? When I searched for "Macs Fan Control", the only file that came up was a "toolbox-cache....xml" file. Should I delete this, for instance?

I did it the manual way, looking up the specific files in the library folders and moving them to the bin. I din't find all of them, but I guess it's good then. I also removed the toolbox-cache file which I found in the Application helper folder.

Macs Fan Control allows you to monitor and control almost any aspect of your computer's fans, with support for controlling fan speed, temperature sensors pane, menu-bar icon, and autostart with system option.

MacBooks are built for creation and creativity. They're built to withstand our careers, our hobbies, and our everyday use. I use mine every day, and there's nothing I'd recommend more for computing needs.

However, not all MacBooks are built the same. The newer MacBooks models (2012 to 2014) have a logic board (aka motherboard) design that makes the fans inside the system virtually silent. While this is a great improvement, it can also have some setbacks (as with everything in life).

The system can get very hot on the bottom, which can get uncomfortable for many people. Not to say this doesn't happen with the other models, or laptops in general, but this happens naturally with the newer MacBooks.

Macs Fan Control is one of many fan controlling programs for Mac (like smcfancontrol and Fan Control 1.2), but this is one of the more stable and user-friendly applications out of the bunch.

First, head to CrystalIDEA Software's website to download Macs Fan Control onto your computer. Make sure to choose the "Macs Fan Control for Mac OS X" download, not the "Boot Camp" one. Once download, unzip the file and move the app to your Applications folder.

Now that we understand the information given to us, let's see how we can tweak it. Go to the left side of the window and double-click on the fan you want to affect. In this example, I'll change the left fan, but you should change both fans to the same speed when doing this procedure.

You will be presented with your options when you double-click a fan. The default is Automatic, but to change your fan's speed, you'll want to select Constant RPM value instead. You can either use the slider, or type your own custom speed.

You'll see that your value will begin to increase to the value you just set. And, your Control will no longer be on Auto, it will change to the constant value you chose.

Your Mac will be begin cooling if you selected the right temperature. You will be able to hear the fan at higher rates, but it won't be doing any harm to your system. Remember to change your other fan to the same speed, so they're running evenly.

Do not leave your Mac running with this fan speed longer than the time you're using it. It will not cause damage for time-to-time use, but you do not want this to be a 24/7 operation. It would be best to use software like this to cool your system down while it's hot, and then reset to normal values.

Once you've solved your heating problem, it's time to return to the original settings to prevent the fans from staying at the speed that we set. Go back to the same fan(s) you selected before, and double-click it again. This time, select the first option, Automatic (controlled by system), to go back to normal.

Now you don't need to worry about your laptop burning your legs when you start to use it heavily. Did this trick cool down your laptop? Let us know in the comments, along with what settings worked best for you.

Mac Pro 4,1 and 5,1 have some issue in system management controller (SMC) which causes PCI front fan and power supply fans to spin up too high when using non-Apple NVIDIA graphics cards. However there is an easy way to fix it both under macOS and Windows (installed via Apple BootCamp) by following this guide.

Select fan control via Sensor-based value and choose PCIE Ambient from the list. Then set the start temperature to 34C and maximum temperature to 42C and save settings by clicking OK button.

Select fan control via Sensor-based value and choose PSMI Supply AC/DC Supply 1 from the list. Then set the start temperature to 38C and maximum temperature to 48C and save settings by clicking OK button.

Favourite Red Lion came with a bold run down the outside to take control 50m out after straightening two from the rear to make it four wins from his past five starts. It was a solid effort carrying top weight and he's destined for better things. Erimo ran on nicely from midfield to just edge Galaxy Witness for second. It was a cracker up in class following a win on dirt. Galaxy Witness came from last and with one wider out to make it close for second. It was another honest effort this season on the turf following a flat effort last start on dirt. Atullibigeal weaved a run near the inside from among the backmarkers to just miss a placing. It was a good run off a break and he's better suited over 1,600m. The Golden Scenery ran on steadily to finish next best from behind midfield. He just isn't good enough around his current mark. Flagship Warrior was held up at a crucial stage after making his run three from the rear. He should have finished closer.
