Asa side note, is there a way to add a custom ring to a range of calls? For the calls that do not come up as Restricted, I know the area code and prefix but there could be any number of phone numbers that fit under this combination. Is there a way (whether within the phone or via a third party app) to accomplish this? I have Mr. Number but that only blocks certain calls from reaching my phone. It does not provide customization.
You can put all of the contacts in your list into a group and assign the group with a ringtone, and set the default ringtone as something else. This way anyone not stored in your phone will ring with a different tone to anyone you have stored.
Note: as Triratna found out here: after setting another ringtone outside of the app (for example in the default ringtone app), the extension does not refresh and still will display the previously set ringtone. As workaround, restart your app to get the correct ringtone
Just like Ringtone in Taifun's extension, you (might) have to reboot the application. I went to the Settings app > Sound and vibration, and adjusted the volume for Media. The GetStreamVolumeMusic matched it.
There is a load of song cutter apps available over the Play Store, as well as software also available for PCs. I have tried searching over the Play Store and got several apps names MP3 cutter which can help you out with cutting the ringtone to a specific point and then then you can set that as your ringtone.
Not a complete answer, but an important detail: I discovered that from a song length of 1:30 (90 seconds), Android seems to pick a fragment from the middle of the song instead of the beginning. So, if you cut your own ringtone and expect that it starts from the beginning, it must be less than 1:30 in length. 1:29 is fine.
I have a set of about 130 mp3's in my android app of different sound clips. They're listed in a listview, and when the user long-presses on one of them, it gives them the option to set it as their default ringtone or notification. For the most part, I got this working for ringtone, but its kind of inconsistent.
For example, it may set the default ringtone the first time, but the next time I try to set another clip as default ringtone, and then go into my ringtone lists, it has 'Silent' selected. Also, I've noticed that throughout my testing, the app has created 3-4 options in my ringtone list that has no corresponding file, and I have no idea how to remove these.
This is something that's happened on all of my Samsung phones since my s20 Ultra. But it's gotten so much worse on my s22 Ultra lately. It just randomly sets my ringtone to almost zero. Many other people seem to have the same problem as well.
No, it's not in my pocket and hitting the volume button. This will happen just sitting on my desk next to me. It was just every so often before but, in the past week or so, it seems to just keep setting it low all of the time.
I can, however, this is a problem that's happened for literally years across multiple Samsung models, etc. So, this is a problem Samsung seems to have. And searching on it, you can find many many posts online referencing this same problem.
I do not have much of anything on my phone as I use it for my business and I can't afford problems. This problem is more than annoying as I cannot hear the phone ring at times and I need to be able to know when customers are calling.
Why did you post here? If you have nothing to add, how about scrolling along and stop trying to start anything. I'm happy you haven't had a problem but I don't care. It does nothing to help the problem I've had for years.
Wow! I finally got it but it was extremely counterintuitive. I had to go to the Ringtone settings page on my iphone 13 and there was a section with "Store" with two buttons, "Tone Store", and something like "Download all downloadable ringtones from the store".
I had no interest in purchasing ringtones from the store, so I didn't bother tapping this at first, but I figured what the heck, and I tapped the "download all downloadable ringtones", and the .m4r file's ringtone instantly appeared in the ringtones list in settings, and I was able to use it.
If anyone knows of a more elegant native method for importing an M4R ringtone without a Mac or PC, please share it here. One might be forgiven for imagining that Apple intentionally keeps the process abstruse to encourage ringtone sales through the iTunes Store.
Hence, people under Work would have one ringtone, Family another, Friends a different one, etc. I get that there would be some overlap (people in two groups), but then the default would be which ever ringtone las last applied (individual or group).
I found a ghetto work-around for group ringtones on the iPhone. It's sort of annoying but once you get it set up, its easy to then change a group ringtone. You have to set the ringtone for each one of your contacts, but only ONCE, and then changing the ringtone for a group is easy. You won't want to do this unless you enjoy changing your ringtones every so often.
1. Create a custom ringtone for each group you want to set, and give it a default name that you recognize (ie "AA_Family" "AA_Friends" "AA_Work" etc). I put the "AA_" in front so it shows at the top of my ringtones list on the iPhone.
3. Now the annoying part...you have to go into each contact and set the ringtone for each one according to the group they belong to. I know, this sucks. But I have about 150 contacts, and I did it, and it didn't seem to take me THAT long. You get into a rhythm and just knock it out. (First try just setting it for a few contacts, maybe 10 that are in the same group, because if you don't follow these instruction correctly you will have to do it all over again.)
4. Now, if you ever want to change a group's ringtone, just create a new custom ringtone, and rename the file the same as the default name (ie "AA_Family") and replace the file in your library. Then, when you sync, it will just update the ringtone for everyone in that group.
For example, let's say you have a custom ringtone for the song "Thriller" (named Thriller.m4r) and you want to set that for your "AA_Family" group ringtone. You do the file rename/replace and stuff in your iTunes library, but make sure that Thriller.m4r is NOT in your iTunes library when you sync. If it is, it will mess up the group ringtone stuff you just did and set the ringtone of everyone in that group to "Thriller" instead of "AA_Family".
So, I just changed my family group ringtone to Thriller, and now I want to change it to Jingle Bells. I do the same rename/replace procedure, and I make sure that JingleBells.m4r is not in my iTunes library. Thriller.m4r isn't in my library either because I removed it before. Just make sure that you don't add it back in on this sync either because it will mess up the group ringtone stuff. But I want Thriller as a ringtone still on my iPhone, just not as a group ringtone, so what do I do? Well, just do one sync to update the group ringtone (without Thriller in the library), and check it to make sure it worked. Then add Thriller.m4r to your iTunes library, and sync again. Now you have Jingle Bells as a group ringtone, and Thriller.m4r as a single ringtone.
The iPhone knows that song you are playing regardless of the filename of your ringtone. As long as you don't have conflicts, you'll be alright. Hopefully this isn't too confusing. I tried to be clear without typing out a novel. Again, this is really only helpful if you enjoy changing out your group ringtones often like I do.
Your Galaxy phone comes with many pre-stored ringtones to choose from, but you can also customize the ringtone for incoming calls to your liking. You can even set different ringtones for different contacts. If you prefer to use your downloaded music and set your own ringtone rather than using the default ringtones, follow the steps below.
Step 4. Select the music file saved in your mobile phone. Turn on the Play selected highlights only switch to play only a specific part of the song as the ringtone. If disabled, the selected music will play from the beginning.
You'll know who's calling you by just listening to the ringtone. If you individually set a ringtone for a specific contact, the ringtone you set will ring when that person calls. Follow the steps below to set a ringtone for each contact.
Some of my users use an external speaker puck as primary device for their phone calls. The volume they set for talking to people is too high for the ring when new calls come in. If they turn the volume setting down on the speaker to make the ringtone low, then the cannot hear the callers when answering a call. They then turn the volume up high on the speaker during their conversations. But unless they remember to turn the speaker volume down after the call, then the next ring is loud again. There needs to be a way to separate the volume for incoming ringtone from that used in a phone conversation.
Thanks for the reply @Ray_Harwood . However, we have looked into the Windows part of the equation too. The volume mixer uses the same device for the incoming ringtone as for the call itself so the issue remains the same.
in your Zoom Settings under Audio you should be able to select "Use separate audio device to play ringtone simultaneously" once they select this they should be able to adjust the volume slider for each device. They should be able to increase the external speaker volume and keep the headset volume lower or vise versa.
Thanks for the reply @JimmyOrtiz3. As I mentioned, the user is using his external speaker puck as his primary device for phone calls so lowering the volume on that will lower the volume for ringing and for the actual call. Having a secondary simultaneous ringing device would not change that
