I was at the hospital when the Dr. explained this situation to Rachel. I
think the Dr. has to be honest about the fact that they can't predict these
sort of things so the impact of the information he relayed was rather heavy.
I have only just met Rachel but those of you that know her would probably
say she's a trooper. However, she seemed to take the information pretty
hard, as might be expected considering the Dr.s tone. Everyone seems to be
very supportive and she may need a lot as Curt fights his injuries. Prayers
strongly recommended.

Hey Guys/Gals,
I just got off the phone with Rachel. They have found an abnormality (Rachel
was unable to describe it in medical terminology) in one of the MRI's and it
may not be good for Curt. At this time, and as Dan mentioned this morning,
there is little change from yesterday except that they have recently
informed Rachel that Curt's condition may in fact be more difficult to
recover from than they had first hoped. He described to her a scale of his
condition. A 15 would be a normal lucid and feisty Curt at his best. He told
her Curt would be a 7-8 at this time. Not great news. They will begin
feeding him in the next few hours. Curt is resting and please keep the
prayers coming. You all know Curt, he's a fighter, he'll be back soon.
Rachel will be calling me the moment she has a better understanding of the
MRI results and any other changes. If you have new news before she reaches
out to me, please post it here.

Several of you/us have been to look in Curt today. As you probably know,
Curt is still at Methodist Central in the Neural ICU. Rachel asked me to
convey how much she appreciates all of our supportive thoughts and prayers.
She is very tired but incredibly strong. During our stay earlier today Curt
remained on a ventilator and they had begun to reduce his pain and sedation
medication. Apparently, they had used these medications on him to allow for
tests to be performed. At this point (this afternoon), it is unclear how
Curt will respond once the medication is out of his system. Per the onsite
physician, hopefully, his lack of responsiveness is due to the medication.
While we there, Curt moved his arms and legs a little bit from side to side
which we took as a positive sign.
Rachel made it clear that she has what she needs for now. Many of you have
been sending emails asking what you can do. For now, please continue to keep
Curt in your prayers. As any more information becomes available (and I am
certainly not the only source) we will get it out as soon as possible. If
any of you happen to have an update that you would like to post, don't
hesitate to send it out. Once Curt's full condition is known, as friends of
Curt, we can all work together to help him and Rachel get back to a normal
life as quickly as possible. Please be open to helping out when the time
comes.

Curt Arthur crash update:
As we rode the early ride today from Hal's shop, Curt Arthur apparently
attempted to hop a curb as we all were approaching a red light. It was still
fairly dark and onlookers said that he misjudged the curb height, went over
the handle bars and hit his head on the concrete. He was unconscious during
the wait for the ambulance. Fortunately, Physicians Owen Tabor and Todd
Tillmans were immediately looking after him as well as many other cyclists.
I know he would/will be grateful for all of your efforts. Owen sent me the
following email concerning his condition. Please keep Curt and Rachel (his
wife) in your thoughts and prayers. Incidentally, Rachel does not drive and
once we understand the implications and prognosis for Curt, we will organize
a concerted effort to help them through this rough period.

Curt is at Methodist central. His CT scan showed some fractured around his
eye socket, which in the big picture is not a big deal. He has some
intracanial bleeding and will probably be having surgery this am to relieve
the pressure on his brain. Rachel said the neurosurgeon was optimistic, but
he is still in big trouble. He is still unconscious. I will try to send
regular updates. Rachel was fine with keeping Curt's friends in the loop, so
feel free to forward to the Velo and Peddler groups.
