What is the significance of X in "Lock GC collected X garbage locks"

Hi,

What does the value X in "Lock GC collected X garbage locks" really tell us?

At the beginning of this month our Terracotta log was showing "Lock GC collected X garbage locks", where the X values were consistently below 10.

However, in the last few days the X values are an order of magnitude larger, between 30 and 100.

Here are examples from the logs of the same application, around the same time of day:

2021-06-07 13:22:33,254 [ClientLockManager LockGC] INFO com.tc.object.locks.ClientLockManager - ClientID[1729]: Lock GC collected 3 garbage locks

...

2021-06-21 13:20:19,371 [ClientLockManager LockGC] INFO com.tc.object.locks.ClientLockManager - ClientID[2429]: Lock GC collected 48 garbage locks
