Shifting their sound and image from solely aggressive, masculine hip hop to more diverse styles,[4] BTS wanted to express the beauty and anxiousness of "youth" and settled on the title of "花樣年華" (Korean: 화양연화; RR: Hwayangyeonhwa), loosely interpreted to define "youth" as "the most beautiful moment in life."[5] On April 6, 2015, BTS announced their comeback date for April 29, and revealed that all members participated in writing songs for the album.[6] On April 17, an animated comeback trailer[7] was uploaded on Big Hit Entertainment's official YouTube channel, which featured the album's intro track performed by Suga.[8] On April 19, Big Hit Entertainment announced the title of the album, and the first set of member concept photos[9] was posted on their official Twitter account. Along with the reveal of the second set of concept photos,[10] it was stated that two different cover design versions of the album would be released, Pink and White. The album would also include a 120-page photobook and a random photo card.[11] Big Hit Entertainment released the first music video teaser for the album's lead single "I Need U" on April 23.[12] On April 26, the album's track list was revealed, and an album preview was uploaded on Big Hit Entertainment's YouTube channel.[13] Two of the album's tracks, "Boyz with Fun" and "Converse High," had previously been previewed at the 2015 BTS Live Trilogy Episode I: BTS Begins concert held in Seoul on March 29.[14]

The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1 debuted at number two on the Gaon Weekly Album Chart in South Korea and rose to number one the following week.[31] It peaked at number two on the Monthly Album Chart in May.[32] In China, BTS ranked number one for two consecutive weeks on the Gaon Weibo Chart,[33] a weekly rank of the top 10 most popular Korean artists based on data gathered from China's most popular social media platform, Weibo. In Japan, the EP debuted at number 24 on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart[34] and number 45 on the Oricon Monthly Album Chart.[35] The EP ended 2015 as the sixth best-selling album of the year in South Korea, with 274,135 copies sold.[36]

Hey everyone. After the series of BTS concerts we had this past week that left everyone on a high but with major post concert depression, I have been listening a lot to their HYYH (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life) series and found myself blown away by it. In my humble opinion, this series is one of the most poignant and breathtaking tributes to youth, that period in your life when you feel and experience everything with so much intensity that it is etched forever in your mind, and they have so aptly named it "the most beautiful moment in life". I really wanted to write up a short appreciation post for this masterpiece, but i got a little carried away with the intro while going through the lyrics and listening to the albums, and it got quite lengthy; I apologize in advance, but I cannot stop being amazed at how they somehow managed to pull off a series that encapsulates all the feelings that come with entering adulthood - stepping forward into more responsible roles in society, learning to stand on your own two feet and think for yourself, decide on the principles you want to follow and believe in...a crucial time which is perhaps for most people the most tumultuous period of your life, one of many changes, both in you as a person and in how you are perceived and treated by society. Understandably, this is when you feel everything so intensely and often painfully, and these exact feelings are what they have captured so perfectly in these songs.

Finally, we have the epilogue, which ties all this together. BTS get personal about their inner turmoil, their deepest fears and desires as artists in this track which has remained as one of their most cherished songs, both by the fandom and the group. Besides being a deeply personal track, the chorus of the song is an anthem which beautifully encapsulates the feeling of youth and all the tribulations and beauty that comes with it, and this anthem soars with the gang vocals at the end, leaving one with a certain sense of hope that things will get better.

Final thoughts: The songs themselves lyrically resonate so deeply, and the production for these songs (primarily by the Bighit in-house producers and the members) is top tier, often telling the story as much as the lyrics do. Add to this the beautiful music videos that were released along with these albums that helped set the mood of the entire era. The Bangtan Universe is a whole other monster that I wont be tackling, but the videos released for these including the Prologue beautifully captured the story of youth and hardships. The concerts for the HYYH series were the ones which took place after BTS had begun to rise in popularity, hence they were emotional and full of spirit. They are still one of my favorite concert videos to watch to this day precisely because of this. All in all, this time period in BTS' history was truly a magical time period fiercely driven by the passion and grit of seven young boys who wanted to share their stories and prove themselves to the world, and I will forever remain grateful for it. If you've read this far, thank you so much and I sincerely hope that you find comfort in these songs too.

This is BTS. They are amazing and it was easy picking my most favorite album, which I did so by going through my playlist to see which I had the most songs from, and I came up with this album. The fact I love this album has to do with the catchy tunes, the amazing visuals of the music videos, and of course the choreography.

I will fully admit this song has brought me to tears. It is beautiful. Although it is a shorter song, being an epilogue and all, it is really seems to be the basis of this album. If you don't know the Korean language I suggest checking out this translation, although the music video certainly aids to help understand what they are saying. This song was honestly a turning point for me in remembering that although you are getting older and your life is maybe even different than you imagined it, we are all still young and the least we owe to ourselves is to keep going towards our dreams. These few lines here are my favorite in this song:

The chairman continued, "Now, it has become possible for all of the people who originally participated in that series to get together again and keep the promise made years ago. I hope that everyone will wait for that moment. I guess I just ended up confirming for the first time what many people have probably speculated, that there will be a 10th anniversary album and event for 'HYYH'."

MCMAHON: Yeah, totally. It was. It was a hard song to finish because I really loved the chorus. I had the chorus for a long time before I had the rest of the song, and I couldn't figure out where the song was meant to go. I was, like, completely stumped. And I guess I just started, like, singing what I needed to hear without the intention that that would be what the song was. You know, it kind of felt corny as I was singing it out. And so that's why it kind of turned into, you know, yelling that line over and over because I just needed that. Yeah, it was just, like, one of the beautiful moments of surrendering to like, exactly what I needed at the time.
