Hi,

The "Update login records when command is launched" option does not appear to be working on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric; fully-updated as of 2011-12-16).  Unfortunately, I did not discover Terminator until after Ubuntu 11.10, so I cannot say if it was working in previous versions.  For what it's worth, starting Gnome terminal does update the wtmp file, as does opening new tab(s) within it.

The attached screenshot illustrates the problem.  Note that s2 is a different server from which I logged into s3 earlier in the day.

BTW, Terminator is brilliant -- I wish I had discovered it *years* ago!

Thanks,
Doug

This is not the Terminator you seek, per the first item in http://software.jessies.org/terminator/faq.html.

Will do (next week, unless someone would like to beat me to it). Thanks for a considerate and useful response.

Subject: Re: [terminator-users] "Update login records when command is launched" option does not appear to be working (Ubuntu 11.10)

Ah, thanks Martin.  I did indeed read FAQ item 1 but misread it as "this is not GNOME Terminal" (subtle perceptual difference between that and "GNOME Terminator" when reading quickly).  Plus, GNOME Terminator always refers to itself within the app as just "Terminator", so I was not aware that it was even called "GNOME Terminator".

Also, I did click the link to GNOME Terminator in FAQ item 1, but it is a broken link.  This:

    http://oldwww.tenshu.net/terminator/

is now this:

    http://www.ohloh.net/p/gnome-terminator

At any rate, apologies for the trouble.  Perhaps these minor edits of FAQ item 1 might help avoid this in the future:

This is not GNOME Terminal, nor is it GNOME Terminator

Terminator is not GNOME Terminal, nor is it GNOME Terminator.  It does not support splitting windows.  Ours is a completely unrelated terminal emulator that was using the same lame name first.

Similarly, $HOME/.config/terminator/config is not our configuration file.

Thanks again, and be well.  --Doug
