MacTelnet has been renamed to "MacTerm" and has a new web site, "
http://macterm.net/". (The old site will work for many months, but please take note of the new one.)
This new name highlights what has always been true on Mac OS X, which is that this program is much more capable than it used to be. It is a powerful replacement for Apple's Terminal, in addition to being a simpler way to access remote servers.
There have been many, many improvements in the last few months. You can see the complete list of changes and download the latest version from here:
Some highlights:
- Terminal emulation is significantly improved, so many programs will run better and "look right". All existing terminal types have been improved in some way, and XTerm is now a brand new option for the base terminal type (Preferences window, Terminals pane, Emulation tab).
- Support for Unicode (UTF-8) is better.
- Terminal windows can now optionally be made translucent while the application is in the background.
- Various user interface refinements will be noticeable, such as: new toolbar icons, alert messages that have a new appearance and behavior, and tweaks to Full Screen mode.
- Many important bugs have been fixed.
And note finally that MacTerm has been tested on Mac OS X Lion.
