Tears kept rolling down my cheeks the first time I watched Every Child is Special, which dates back to my sophomore year in high school. Recently, I watched the film again for the second time and the same conclusion I made years ago stands. The film Every Child is Special is one of the most remarkable Indian films, not only because of its cinematography, but most especially because of its stand about dyslexia and certain social issues.

Overall, the film has a distinctive cinematography, incorporated with creative animations and musicality. The film serves as an eye-opener regarding dyslexia and certain social issues affecting it. This film made me realize that each and every child is indeed special and significant. Every child has his/her own special need and skills, differentiating him/her from other children. Thus, one should not compare one child to the other. Criticizing its cinematography, as well as its flow and message, I can conclude that the film Every Child is Special (Taare Zameen Par) is among the most remarkable Indian films in history.

I am very busy streaming videos on youtube because today is so boring and I have nothing to do. When I am searching a movie on youtube, I didn't know that I unexpectedly clicked a video. I was shocked when I see the title "Like Stars on Earth"(Every Child is Special). I said to myself " Ha? Every child is special? Why....?" Because of my curiosity, I watch the movie without hesitations. I feel that after watching this movie, I will get something new.

Taare Zameen Par (titled Like Stars on Earth internationally) is a 2007 Indian drama film produced and directed by Aamir Khan. The story is all about Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi, an 8-years old boy who cannot cope with the academic demand in school. He found his self-happy for everything he wants to imagine. The letters he sees are moving and when he writes, his letters and numbers are sometimes inverted. Because of his difficulties in school and family, he became depressed and confused.

His parents then decided to move him to a new school that will teach him better and far away from home, which, they did not know that will make Ishaan more depressed. Ishaan is having a hard time coping and adjusting and his only stress reliever is through painting.

Ishaan is like my young cousin Eric who has dyslexia. His parents and teachers were struggling in teaching him. He doesn't know how to read and write even though the teachers tried their very best. I still remember those days how doleful my aunt is because of him. He was 10 years-old at that time.

We received many judgments from other people. They oftentimes said that the future of Eric is nothing. He will never be a successful man. He should be ready because, in the end, he will be just a beggar asking for a money. It's too tough to be encompassed by an evaluative neighbor. They will just keep on criticizing a person's imperfections.

Today, our neighbors were virtous. We don't hear now a judgments from them. Maybe that is because he is an Electrical Engineer now. Those people who looked down him is now regretting. We are very grateful because of them, we were inspired and motivated.

Why do my cousin is now a successful man, he is unable to read and write before? Well, his mother is very optimistic. She did her best so that Eric will be able to read and write. Even though she is tired in teaching him, she didn't give up until he finally knows to read.

In the movie, I have learned that I should not compare myself to others. Comparing yourself is one of the reason why you will be discontented and and got envious to others success. Remember, there's no comparison between sun and moon, they both shine at the right time.

"A child is like a butterfly in the wind. SOme can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is different. Each one is special. Each one is Beautiful."

Hello friends! Every few weeks, I answer a parenting question on my blog. If this question can help you or a loved one, I encourage you to read this blog post and share it. Also, if you want to ask your own parenting question, please submit it here.

I completely get it and understand how difficult it can be to spend one-on-one time with every child every day and try to take care of yourself, plus manage all the roles and things we juggle like teaching homeschooling, housekeeping, tending to marriage, families, extra activities and dozens of other things! I am right there with you, and often feel like I am just trying to keep my head above water!

Plus, since you and I homeschool, we spend A LOT of time with our children already. From doing school, chores, breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus running around doing the activities and errands, they get a lot of quality and quantity time with mom.

In addition, I heard a speaker once say to deposit time into your children like you make deposits into a car meter. You put some money in and then you go do your thing, and then you come back and put another deposit into the meter. Often, we can put even small deposits of 5 minutes of time throughout the day with our children. Reading a book for 5 min, playing a card game, just listening to our child with no distractions, these can all be little deposits of time we give throughout the day.

Speech, physical, and occupational therapists who work directly with a child can also brainstorm adaptations and modifications with you. For example, for a child who has difficulty with balance and large motor control, a physical therapist could provide a special chair for the classroom and work with you to find other comfortable seating options that let the child be part of the group.

What do you expect children to do and learn during typical routines and activities? Consider this, then think about the supports you can provide to help a child with a disability be more independent and successful. Break down activities into smaller, more manageable tasks for her, and teach the tasks one by one. To help the child transition to a new activity, give her a picture or symbol of the area to show where to go next. If a child uses a nonverbal mode of communication (picture symbols, sign language), teach all of the children to use it.

Whatever the needs of the children in your classroom, learn to trust your instincts and rely on your professional expertise and judgment. Be willing to seek help from others who have valuable experience and knowledge to share with you. These are important things you can do not just for children with disabilities but for every child in your classroom!

Assistive technology (AT): any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of children with disabilities. Assistive technology helps with speaking, seeing, hearing, learning, walking, and many other functions. Different disabilities require different assistive technologies (wheelchairs, walkers, braces, educational software, pencil holders, communication boards).

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004 (Public Law 108-446): the law that governs how states and agencies provide early intervention and special education services to children and young adults

Note: While you may occasionally hear the older term mainstreaming used to mean inclusion, the two are not interchangeable. Mainstreaming describes a child with a disability participating in a program with her peers for just part of the day or for specific activities where she can participate without the teacher making any changes to the activity. Inclusion is the philosophy that children can engage in activities with their peers even if those activities need to be adapted or modified in some way for children to be successful.
