Does anyone know why there are seven instances of Microsoft Edge WebView2 running alongside Photoshop 2022? I hope I've solved the freezing/crashing issue but Psd is still running sluggishly and I would still like to know about this change.
How much RAM any version of Photoshop will use depends one what you do when Photoshop is up and running Whet they need more RAM the will allocate and user in and reuse it and not return it to the system till you shut down Photoshop or use edit Purge to have Photoshop to return some of the resource it has allocated and is not current in need of. All version of Photoshop I have install will use under 2GB when I first start them and nothing is open in Photoshop. This including Photoshop 2022 version 23.0.1. It uses the most started 1.6GB, where CS6 uses around 800MB .8GB. I have run a large Batch job with 23.0.1 and by the end of the job Photoshop address space was up to 26.1GB. I have seen CS6 use up to 30GB on my 40GB machine the max amount of I allow Photoshop to use is 90% 36GB. I have also ended the task in Photoshop with Tasn manager and Photoshop keeps running and working. So I have no Idea why they were in there. These screen captures were done right after starting 23.0.1 you can see at the point in time 23.0.1 usage of RAM is under 2GB. I capture part of the Task Manager window and pasted them into a open document in the running Photoshop 23.0.1 You can see I ended those task and exited the 32bit Photoshop plug-in. Photoshop 23.0.1 keept running in under 2GB of RAM and A I saved the caputres into a single jpeg here.
it's latched onto my work when the (18 month old top-of-the-line hp 17") laptop begins to quake and whine like the millinneum falcon entering warp drive, it's creepy. literally and figuratively. creepy.
Same here. And I don't even use Edge as Firefox is my default (and maybe it is something to bring up with Microsoft as they seem insistent on making Edge into a virus that gets used whether you want to use it or not).
I've never had a crash related to webview2, whether on my 2018 32GB Intel work machine or one of my 2018-2020 128GB AMD home computers. I regularly use 22GB of ram at work in PS and up to 50 at home, with no slowdowns or crashes. I wasn't even aware that this was a problem. I wonder if something else is at fault here. I do, however, hate MS Edge with a seething purple passion that borders on delirium.
I unchecked "Allow internet connection for extensions" under preferences and my photoshop stopped crashing and the Webview2 wasn't opening anymore. This is the only change I made. Therefore, I will make the connection my issue is because of the Microsoft Webview running and disrupting something.
I have created a stationary image in Photoshop that is an 8 x 11 inch image then has a border around the edges that I would like to convert to a Word template. If I simply insert the image into a word document I am unable to type in the open space because Word won't let me type on the surface of a file I have inserted. How can I covert the stationary image I have created in photoshop to a word template so I can use it to create future Word documents?
Yes, changing the settings will dramatically affect the outcome but first you need to sort out what you put in to it because exporting to DXT / DDS from a greyscale image to be used as a normal might not work right.

In any case, to get a flat normal map this is what I would do. Create a basic texture with the RGB levels I previously mentioned or colour pick from my previous example, which is probably slightly off due to exporting as a jpg but would probably still be ok.
Something that is also important is having an appropriate json file alongside your texture but I imagine you are aware of this as you have a functioning albedo. Using the SDK to export the project will likely create them anyway.
Ok, I suddenly remembered something and did some experimenting. Despite repeated searches trying to find the file formats for MSFS normal maps, I remembered you can read the header of the file in a hex editor. Doing so revealed default normal maps are BC5 format.
I was able to create a blank normal map by replacing the CS777_FUS_01_N.PNG.DDS file in the BUMP folder with a black dds BC1 created in photoshop (also works with BC5). Thanks for the tips NottheTagiwant.
I am trying to save a NORMAL texture for the MSFS PMDG 737 using Photoshop but it will not show correctly in the sim. What format/settings should be used to save after editing?

I do suspect that if you used the in game SDK to compile a livery project, it will convert standard normal maps in to the correct format but I have not tested it as I have not made a livery where I change the normal map. All my own livery creations just change the diffuse / albedo and comp.
Something you could try which is a bit of a bodge is selecting the base normal colour (a flat area of the texture and painting it black. This will resolve some issues but might also look weird elsewhere.
Late June of 2022, Photoshop suddenly went cray-cray. The screen was freezing up, showing the opening screen behind my artboard. The whole program would freeze up requiring the good old CTRL+ALT+DEL. When I relaunched Photoshop (PS) I got this error:

Thank you so much for this post. I have had the same problems, both with the graphics and trying to find helpful answers on the forums. When I saw your error screenshot that looked exactly like mine it was such a great feeling. Your fix instructions solved everything for me
I have been using photoshop 2023 for a while with no issues. I think I have the standard intel graphics card on windows 10. I opened it today as I usually do and then the same sort of error message came up.

What a mystery. You know, I vaguely remember a message popping up somewhere saying PS was discontinuing 3D features in future releases. Maybe the 3D filters are broken because those features were stripped from the program?
