Upgrading from the 32-bit version to the 64-bit version of Windows requires that you reformat your hard disk, install the 64-bit version of Windows, and then reinstall everything else that you had on your device.

To install a 64-bit version of Windows, you need a CPU that's capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows. The benefits of using a 64-bit operating system are most apparent when you have a large amount of random access memory (RAM) installed on your computer, typically 4 GB of RAM or more. In such cases, because a 64-bit operating system can handle large amounts of memory more efficiently than a 32-bit operating system, a 64-bit system can be more responsive when running several programs at the same time and switching between them frequently.

I gave my son my laptop which left me with my old win7 32 bit toshiba. where do i download the 32 bit cura?my computer says its incompatible with the 64amd. any possible way someone can leave the link. im a bit overwhelmed atm so my mind is a bit jumbled

Ultimaker Cura stopped being supported with Windows 32bit a while ago. You can find previous versions at this link. I want to say I think the last one that supported 32bit windows was in the 2.x series so you'll have to scroll back a ways. I'm not using Windows and am not 100% sure of which version was the final 32bit Cura. Cura 4.8 won't run on 32bit.

Thank you guys for the help, I did end up installing win 10 pro 64bit on that laptop, it has a 64bit system. But as Torgier mentioned it uses a lot of its "resources" so I uninstalled it due to failure at startup. I bought a better laptop and upgraded the crap out of it and today is the day I see what Ive created and test it with cura

I want to build both 32- and 64-bit binaries of an application on Windows 7-64. I have installed the stable-i686 and stable-x86_64 toolchains and have built the application as 64-bit with no problems. But the 32-bit one ends up with some 64-bit code and won't run.

The depends program reports a problem with the 32-bit exe: "Error: Modules with different CPU types were found." Which sounds to me like I have some 64-bit artifacts even though I build the 32- and 64-bit versions in different target dirs.

I'm not aware that I have any C dependencies: the app is pure rust + some access to DLLs (for which I have a cfg to choose 32- or 64 bits). But I use lots of crates so maybe one of those is 64 bit only. I'll try again with a small example app.

So for the larger app I'm working on I think you're right that I have a crate dependency that's 64-bit only. But even if I found out which one (or ones) it is, knowing that won't give me a 32-bit build.

Knowing which dependency it is could help you file a bug and get it fixed. Sys crates usually also have a way to force them to build a static library from source instead of searching the system for it.

Unfortunately, I've now removed all the 32-bit support. It was only a "nice to have" for me and had the disadvantage of doubling the number of packages and tests. I know that people use virtual machines, but I don't really know why people still use 32 bits (although I do have two ancient laptops that are 32 bits, so maybe other people hang on to old machines too).

I have just acquired an 8700 which came with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit installed on an SSD. I need to replace this installation with the 32-bit version of Win10, as this will be the simplest solution to supporting a string of 16-bit legacy applications. I have downloaded an ISO image of the Windows10 32-bit installer from Microsoft, but what I thought would be a simple re-installation has turned into a frustrating couple of days and no results (I would be a complete mess if it weren't for the fact that the SSD makes restarts bearably quick!).

I've seen threads here suggesting that booting from a 32-bit image isn't always possible in 64-bit hardware. The only way I have managed to get the installer image to boot is to turn off UEFI, and then the installer barfs because "the disk is of GPT type".

All good. The installation resulted in Win10 Home on the PC. I entered my Win10 Pro key and it rejected it, I then found out about the trick of upgrading to Win10 Pro with the internet disconnected and using the temporary key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T and then entering my own key and activating it.

I have the same problem. 50% of my software is 16bit based and the cost to upgrade is 10x the cost of the dell desktop. I bought an Inspirion 6 months ago and still can't load any 32 bit os. I have installed a VM, and dos emulator. Neither work as good as a real 32 bit os. I should have just returned the computer to costco. This has been a real pain. Dell tech support is pretty useless since they off loaded it to India. They have no idea how to install an OS even going so far as to tell me that I can't upgrade win 10 64 to win 11. If you found a way to install win 10 32 bit on a uefi 64 bit pc, please let me know.

I have tried that approach. I get inspirion 3880 No bootable device found error. There is no legacy boot option in 3880 bios. I can boot using same thumb drive if it has 64 bit os. I really don't care about 64 bit s/w as all of mine are 16 or 32 bit. i have also been trying using modified windows 10 64 bit s/w which allows me limited 16 bit ntvdm. But it is not nearly as good as real ntvdm on a 32 bit machine. The best option is to downgrade from win 10 64 to win 10 32. win 11 does not offer 32 bit so I will never upgrade. Having only 4gb of memory vs 12gb is a choice I can live with if I can get my 16 bit apps to work.

I have 2 Dell Precision T3500. Both run win 7 32bit and win 10 32 bit. It is fairly easy to plop in a new ssd and install windows 32 bit or 64 bit on these machines. The software I use is 16 & 32 bit. The amount of time required to convert custom coding in dbase III to windows version is over 80 hrs. Not to mention the cost of windows version of dbase. Buying another 2010 or earlier dell doesn't make sense. I also use microsoft briefcase to sync between win 10 laptop and t3500. briefcase does not exist in win 10 nor 11. briefcase while slower than various sync programs does make it easy to update many files while checking each file to ensure master file is not overwritten.

there are a lot of users out there that really need to run 16 bit s/w on newest machines. So many in fact that there are communities out there trying to modify win 10 64 bit to run 16 bit apps. NTVDM was removed by microsoft in win 10 64 bit. But they could have left it in and there would be no problem. So right now I have 2 pc side by side. One win 10 64bit that runs only 1 program cuz that company won't run on win 7, and the t3500 that runs all others on win 7. Also... the text display is different between win 7 and 10. with 10 being blurry to my eyes. I run quicken, quickbook word, excel , edge all 32 bit all on win 7 32 ,bit. No need to rent s/w from microsoft when I own these. Cloud storage is great if you always have internet. But transferring 10gb of data every day to the cloud is very slow. And when you go to destinations w/no internet, you are out of luck w/o programs and data on the local machine. All of my email is downloaded, worked on offline ,then uploaded to server.

In Windows 10, the same procedure seems to launch 64-bit, despite the shortcut property to x86. The Task Manager does not indicate any difference between the launched 64-bit and 32-bit instances. Both list iexplore.exe (nothing indicating 32 bit).

Also, there is no iexplore.exe *32 in Windows 10 process manager, even if launching the x86 executable. So i'm still stuck. I've read the same issues elsewhere but no substantive answers specifically for Windows 10, IE 11.

I'm asking somebody who works with the apps with Win 7 64 bit, IE 11 32-bit to provide a screenshot of her Task Manager. Maybe I can see if IE 11 is running in this little of 64, a lot of 32 manner "successfully" for her.

There are no longer options to setup separate shortcust for 64 abd 32bit IE. You only need to clear "Enable Enchanced protected mode" setting to use IE in 32bit. We do that in our company and we are using 32bit activex controls. So I'm confident that it is 32bit IE :). The same applies to IE Mode in Edge on 64bit systems.

Out of the box, it has Enable Protected Mode checked and the awesome documentation behind the link indicates 32 bit is the default. Yet to have it run 64-bit, stuff needs checked and to run 32-bit, the procedure is to uncheck Enable Protected Mode.

I guess I'm trying to figure out what exactly is out of the box between the two bit states, it seems to be a hybrid. Thanks so much again. I hate not being able to mess wiht this directly but as a skeptic, anticipating the chaos. :) and praying.

In response to my previous off-topic question, here, I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 on a VM in Windows as I need to do some things with it. How do I configure wine properly to install a 32-bit program on 64-bit Ubuntu without configuration issues?

Here are unofficial builds of NumPy 1.22 and SciPy 1.8.1 for the 32-bit x86 build of Python 3.11. Note that Christoph Gohlke ceased releasing these unofficial wheels as of June 2022. Apparently Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics withdrew the funding that supported the project, but at least it still hosts the archive.

There has not been a 32-bit version of SketchUp for many years. The only versions supplied officially are the last three versions which are all 64-bit and Pro. Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2022 Pro. Is that correct?

32-bit versions of SketchUp 2016 and 2015 can be downloaded at
-179-archiv
I am not sure but I think that at that time the downloads were not yet separate but Pro converts to Make after the trial period. Might be wrong about that.

I meant to write this message a while ago already; now got triggered by a question in response to the SciPy 1.8.1 release announcement and some discussion that followed that on the SciPy issue tracker.
