Hello folks,
For those who may be interested in having a Salvadoran lunch at your school, in conjunction with bringing in the letters from Teosinte, please find attached the letter/flyer that Heather at Hardy and Daniela at Peirce used for their luncheon. Below is some info about the Peirce event. Heather and Daniela are both happy to answer questions about how they handled planning and logistics:
- Heather Smith, Hardy: harche...@yahoo.com
- Daniela Gnerre, Peirce: dan...@gnerre.com
Take care,
Beth

> Peirce School
has two 4th grade classes for a total of 40 students. I
> contacted a salvadorian restaurant and asked them if they had pupusas
> with rice
and beans, telling them it was for a school project
in
> Arlington.
>
> After listening to their menu, we agreed for a child size of 1 pupusa
> with cheese (no meat, I knew some children are vegetarian)
plus some
> rice and bean, no fried plantain, for $4.00 a
person.
>
> Few days before the event, the teachers sent a note home explaining
> that
> as the end of the unit, they would like the 4th graders to experience
> some salvadorian food. If the child
was willing to order a pupusa
> lunch,
> had to bring in $4.00. So they collected the money.
>
> The day before the luncheon, I contacted the restaurant again, with
> the
> exact amount of lunches I was ordering. The 4th graders have lunch at
> 11.30am, so I asked them to prepare the food by 11am, giving myself
> half
> an hour to get to the school (I end up arriving at 11.36).
>
> The restaurant prepared 3 big trays of food: one for the pupusas
> (they
> stayed warm), one with rice and one with beans. On the side I had some
> sauce (not the hot one, just the plain).
>
> Back in the school, the roomparents were setting up the tables and
> pouring drinks: mango juice and water (we kept it very simple). Out of
> the 40 students, I ordered 28 lunches. Most of them liked the pupusas,
> all of them the rice. Only a couple actually tried the rice: it was a
> black cream, not very inviting.

> Last note is about the restaurant. I contacted Mi Tierra. The address
