The president of the the Teosinte school scholarship committee has been emailing me.  It has been a lot of fun to be able to ask him questions about the life of the students studying for their high school and university degrees.  Attached are the answers to some questions I sent him earlier this month.

I am hoping that someone would like to email with him regularly as it takes me way to long to respond to him.(weeks) and he responds to me within days.  You don't even need to speak Spanish that well.  I use google translate to make it quicker for myself.  I write it all in English, Google translates it and then I cut and paste it into an email.

This is a great way for students to have an immediate and direct contact with peers in Teosinte.  You have a question, they have an answere and we can send them photos via email.  It might be great for Kim's students or anyone else interested.

Please share this with your school's 4th grade teachers as well.

Gracias, Elizabeth

Elizabeth,

It would be great to find a middle school or high school student who speaks Spanish fairly well and would like to be the “liaison” to this person.  We could ask Nanci/Kerry if there’s anyone at the high school.  Or maybe Kim knows someone.

Beth

Molly Rookwood, a third year Spanish student and 8th grader, and Aidan Wilcox, a 5th year?? Spanish Student and 10th grader (Charlotte Pierce's son) are interested in this, as are a couple of Molly's Model UN friends who don't speak Spanish but have been involved in the Teosinte project.  I also spoke with Meaghan Bassett, a Spanish teacher from the high school who is traveling to Nagaokakyo with the students this summer, and she asked me to have something written up for her and she could then try to find some students.

I realize I have been anything but realiable this year, but if someone can be a support to me in terms of the Spanish issue, which I am starting to really work on on the Rosetta Stone so we will pray that in a couple of years I will be able to handle much more of it myself, I will be happy to try to coordinate this effort.  I just need to have all the information.

Also, Dean Stevens is going to Teosinte on June 25 and I thought we should start now putting our heads together and thinking about what we most want to send.  Judy Norsigian of the Women's Health Book Collective thinks she can get us a fetal heart monitor by then.  What are the other priorities?  I think nebulizer medications and inhalers?  Diabetes test strips?  what about things like tylenol, ibuprofen, and such?  And books or toys or school supplies?   I can contact the Arlington resident who works for American, assuming dean is flying American, and see if we can send a suitcase or trunk additional to his allowed luggage as a special allowance for our project.

Thanks so much!

Kim

BTW, when is our next meeting scheduled to be?  I am having minor surgery on May 11 but if I can make the next meeting I would like to do so.  Several of the Japanese guests, who left this morning, were given Teosinte craft items by their hosts this year!
