Friends,
Rev. Herron Gaston, pastor of Summerfield United Methodist Church in the East End of Bridgeport, asked me to relay the following invitation to the community. I hope some of you can join us tomorrow, in prayer and solidarity.
“I would like to invite you and members of the Council to attend a gathering at Summerfield United Methodist Church tomorrow December 20th, 2018 at 11a.m. to address the senseless murders in Bridgeport and to push our leaders to do something about it.
Just last night a young kid, who was only 12 years old, was shot and killed just a few blocks away from Summerfield. This young man was acquainted with our church through our Youth With a Purpose Program, and many of our young people are distraught. We are inviting community leaders to come together to pray and to push our governmental leaders to support common sense gun legislation, and to put more money into recreational programs in our communities as a way to curb violence. Members of the media have been invited to attend.
Thanks,
Herron”
Also, as we did last year, the Council of Churches is inviting faith and community leaders to join us for prayer and remembrance of those murdered in Bridgeport in 2018. It will be on Thursday, January 17 at noon. A flyer is attached.
Thank you all,
Cass
